After a fine day with mostly clear blue skies, I liked how the vivid orange of the fireball sun contrasted with the accumulating dramatic grey cloud over the coastline. The low angle of the light also made the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea look black at this time of the evening, a good match for the silhouetted guard rail, mast detail and secondary radar.

The prominent, smooth, layered clouds near the centre of this picture are lenticular formations. The most precise classification for this type of mid-level, stacked cloud is likely Altocumulus Standing Lenticular (ACSL) clouds, or Altocumulus lenticularis duplicatus due to the multiple layers. They are sometimes mistaken for UFOs – but hopefully not in this bright midday sunlight!

Ubicada en el centro de Alicante, El Castillo de Santa Bárbara es una fortaleza que corona el monte Benacantil a 166 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Es una de las fortalezas medievales más grandes de España, con aproximadamente 400.000 metros cuadrados de extensión. Los orÃgenes del castillo se remontan al siglo IX durante la dominación musulmana, aunque se han hallado restos arqueológicos de la Edad de Bronce, Ãberos y romanos en las laderas del monte. Fue conquistado el 4 de diciembre de 1248 por Alfonso de Castilla y recibió el nombre de Santa Bárbara en honor a la festividad del dÃa. Desde sus murallas, los visitantes disfrutan de espectaculares vistas panorámicas de la ciudad, el puerto y la bahÃa de Alicante. La fortaleza presenta tres recintos distintos construidos en diferentes épocas.

The Contemporary Art Museum of Alicante (Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Alicante, MACA)
is a space where history and modernity come together. Located in the city’s oldest civil building, a 17th-century Baroque gem, this museum has a unique history. Originally built in 1685 as a grain warehouse, it has been transformed into a temple of avant-garde art. The museum houses one of Spain’s most important 20th-century art collections, featuring internationally renowned artists like Picasso, Dali, Miro and Chillida. However, it was the vision and generosity of Alicante-born artist Eusebio Sempere that brought MACA to life. His donation of artworks in 1977 marked the beginning of this cultural space.
