Some of you may recognize this shot, as I have two similar ones in my stream here on flickr. Also, Steve Landeros (aka maxxsmart) has a very similar composition as we were standing just a few feet apart back in December when the storm cleared right at sunset.

I haven't been out much shooting, a combination of factors causing this sad state. That should hopefully be changing soon, as I have some more free time in the near future.

I've got some good news to share, but will wait until it is official before I post here about it. But for all you Seattle area folk, leave a couch open for Kendra and me in June!

Motorcycle racer

I spotted this beauty parked where I sometimes do my daily walkabouts. Of course I changed the plate numbers, but other than that, just enhancement edits were done.

Checker Motors Corporation was a Kalamazoo, Michigan, vehicle manufacturer and tier-one subcontractor that manufactured taxicabs used by Checker Taxi. Checker Motors Corporation was established by Morris Markin in 1922 through a merger of Commonwealth Motors and Markin Automobile Body.

Checker made the iconic American taxi cab, valued by taxicab companies for its durability in heavy use. Special features included wide rear doors, large rear seats and trunks. The company had trouble competing with fleet discounts offered by the larger manufacturers, as well as economies of scale in procuring components. The final models were produced in 1982. After 1982, Checker invested significantly in the third party manufacturing business, serving GM and Chrysler.

I've been trying my best to get my image archives organized and as I was passing through last year, I realized it has been a year to the day that this amazing sunset happened at Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands near San Francisco. I've had this one on my edits as a monochrome, but decided to go ahead and process it in color. Looking forward to the winter storms and more dramatic light!

--Software & Processing--

In ACR, adjusted brightness, exposure and white balance for sky only and then again for the foreground only. Blended the two 16-bit tiffs in PS CS5 by hand.

In CS5, layers included:

-Basic Mid-Tones luminosity mask with Curves adjustment

-Vibrance mask for saturation increase

-Saturation mask for saturation decrease

-Burn/Dodge layer with 50% gray and layer mode Soft Light using two different luminosity mask selections to even out the light a little more.

-Noise reduction selectively masked with Noise Ninja

-Sharpening selectivel masked with Nik Sharpener Pro

-Crop to square

-Custom action for web sizing, sharpening, conversion to 8-bit, sRGB, and embedding personal info into exif

-Total time on image about 30-40 minutes
