Toogood Walking Path in Fall

Probably one of the most popular park in Markham based sheerly on usage (it's proximity to historic Unionville doesn't hurt either). I had to wait a long time to get an unobstructed view of this beautiful portion of the path and its colourful leaves.

Prime agricultural land, considered the best in Canada soon to be converted into suburban tract housing and two-car garages

On the evening of November 5th, CN ran a second section of L546 up the Uxbridge Subdivision to retrieve two heritage rail cars from Lincolnville, ON for delivery to MacMillan Yard via the Uxbridge, Kingston, and York Subdivisions. Due to not having an SBU available, the movement was restricted to 15 miles per hour for the whole journey, limiting the crew's ability to make time at Mac Yard, thus the train was yarded in Oshawa at daybreak.

CN L54632 04 consisted of CN GP9 4125, ex-ONT coach RPDX 2514, and an ex-VIA/nee-CN baggage RPDX 9636...the Rapido reporting marks tip us off as to the equipment's destination, which I can only guess will be Salford on the Ontario Southland, who will do the job of repainting both cars at the behest of the VIA Historical Association. In this scene, lone Geep 4125 tiptoes past the platforms at Markham GO station, headed northwest towards Lincolnville layover facility where the two cars are parked awaiting a lift.

During a recent visit to Dubai, I wanted to do a sunrise tour to the desert but all the tours seems to be dune bashing and dinners rather than photography. The solution was to get a private car there. We didn’t expect a 7 series beemer though! As it turned out, 4wd really was needed but it was too early in the morning to hire them from the roadside when we got there. I walked in a reasonable distance but the 4wd tracks are still visible in most of the shots unfortunately.

The sky turned on a spectacular sunrise with pinks and blues which made up for the smaller dunes.

I used the 70-200mm with 3 stop grad ND filter to try to remove most of the tracks and liked the outcome. I will get a 4wd next time to get to some bigger dunes next time.

Thanks for the visits, faves and comments its greatly appreciated.

20057 is approaching the signal box at Markham Colliery Sidings with a half mgr set from Bolsover to Seymour Yard.

We were invited into the box during this afternoon and the signalman was most helpful as to the workings we saw. In this picture the driver is leaning from the cab, he has the single line token ready to be taken by the bobby. Apart from the sturdy podium provided to make life easier for the signaller, we see what was once a fine cast iron gas lamp post. Behind that post is a large and deep looking pit, protected by a low wall of sleepers on three sides but just a 6 inch section behind the signalman, even then, pre-H&S, that was dangerous!

20057 was built as D8057 by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn Ltd, it entered service new to Sheffield Darnall 01/05/1961

The loco was withdrawn in October 1994 and is preserved.

This is a second picture taken here and this is the one I prefer. The previous shot was taken right side of the fence, I didn't scan this because I thought that showing the signalman from his unattended box might have had repercussions for him, 43 years on it probably does not matter.

The Cathedral of the Transfiguration was a Slovak Greek Catholic cathedral located on a lot that used to be part of the Victoria Square community in Markham, Ontario, Canada. However, upon urbanization and development, the former cathedral is now unofficially designated as part of Cathedraltown in Markham, Ontario, Canada as it stands right in the centre of Cathedraltown and serves as the landmark of the Cathedraltown community. It was built in a rural area north of the city of Toronto and was built to serve Slovak Catholics throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The building was conceived and funded by Stephen Boleslav Roman, a Slovak immigrant to Canada who had built up the Denison Mines corporation. Roman both funded and designed the building, modelling the structure on the church in Veľký Ruskov, the Slovak village he was raised in. The cathedral was built on a donated portion of his Romandale estate. The structure was closed as a place of Catholic worship in 2006.

Among its features is the world's largest three-bell carillon, with the French-made bells by the Fonderie Paccard, weighing 14 500 kg (32,000 pounds), and 300 cm diameter. The mosaics are reputed to contain about 5 million pieces. The building was built to hold 1000 worshippers serving a community of about 5000 Byzantine Rite Catholics in the GTA and 35,000 across Canada. The central tower rises 63 metres (about 20 storeys) and is topped by a gold onion dome. The church was designed by Donald Buttress, a renowned architect whose claim to fame is overhauling Westminster Abbey.[1] - Wikipedia

At the south end of Markham Yard in Homewood, Illinois, a CN Q-train leaves town, heading south on the ex-Illinois Central main at dusk.

Hidden in the trees off to the left is the old Southern Railway Markham depot. The line becomes really tree'd in as it navigates the piedmont terrain between Manassas and Front Royal, VA.
