The Bergisches Land emerged from the historic Duchy of Berg. The region also owes its name to the former sovereigns, the Counts (and later Dukes) of the House of Berg.
The adjectival Latin term terre Montensis, i.e. of the Bergisches Land, was first recorded in writing in a Bergisch office constitution in 1363 [de], although terra de Monte or "Land von Berg" appeared in earlier documents.
Narrow streets with Bergisch half-timbered houses, an idyllic market square surrounded by lovingly restored buildings, an imposing monastery church that sits high up - 72 steps lead up: Gräfrath shows the picture of a small Bergisch town in pre-industrial times. Well-preserved ensembles of houses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Century and the reformed church from 1689 characterize the picture. The historic town center is a listed building.
The landmark, visible from afar, is the monastery church of St. Mary of the Assumption with its eight-sided roof turret and the "lantern", a turret-like attachment. The church is the oldest building in town. Built around 1195 as a Romanesque pillar basilica and collegiate church of the Augustinian choir women. Today the image is influenced by Baroque. The former monastery building now houses the German Blade Museum.

If you know me personally, there's one thing I dislike more than anything in the entire world, it's waking up super early in the morning. There are some days I wish I had an actual bag that said this, (aardvark, you rock!) because if I didn't have my essentials like my drink and my purse, I would most definitely not be able to hold my own shit together. There's no amount of caffeine in the world that can make me a morning person. Trust me, I've tried. :)

Two Great Horned Owl chicks (Bubo virginianus) huddled together in their nest in a cottonwood tree. This is a single frame taken from a video using a GoPro 9 Black set at 4K 60p. Image taken in Eastern Arapahoe County of Colorado. Time mark 01:01:13:31.
The nest is probably 12 feet off the ground so I had to use an extension pole to get the GoPro 9 up high enough over the lip to the nest. The chicks showed no apprehension in the entire video.
Before you shoot
01 Clean your sensor
Even with in-built cleaning system on most modern SLRs or compact system cameras, some dust will inevitably find its way onto your camera’s sensor, which takes time to remove from your images with photo-editing software.
-
04 Clean your lenses/filters
The front element of your lens and filters can soon get covered in dust, dirt and even greasy fingerprints.
This can cause flare or even affect the sharpness of your images, so it’s worth cleaning them before you go out. Use
a blower to dislodge any dust or dirt, then use a lens-cleaning cloth to remove any stubborn marks.

I did not take this picture. It was a self portrait. I did, however, do some post processing of the original, done by Mark Larcher.
(Mark is the :01 Editorial Director) Written in an odd alien language with a cast of even more bizarre alien characters, how is it possible that this book goes back and forth so easily from being ridiculously cute and utterly gruesome? It was the second book we published on our inagural 2006 list and we decided to design it with the idea of it being a found object—A strange alien book Trondheim found on the ground one day. Aged corners, grainy images, stains...one of the most interesting and misunderstood of all our designs. (Some booksellers were even convinced their copies arrived defective!) Luckily for us the reviewers got it right away and loved it.
Also VERY IMPORTANT to note: It has the longest running poop joke in this history of poop jokes. Seriously. That joke is like three miles long!
Here's the official-type description:
A.L.I.E.E.E.N.by LEWIS TRONDHEIM
The first extraterrestrial comic book in print on planet Earth!
At last we have an answer to the question: What do alien kids read?
Who knows how many light-years this beaten-up, weatherworn volume has traveled to land up in the hands of an earthling like you? This rare artifact from another planet is written in an entirely alien language and alphabet, which you may be the first human to decipher.
Whichever galaxy they're from, these interwoven tales prove that some stories are indeed universal — and that others are, well ... weird, bizarre, and clearly not of this world. But no matter how many eyes, legs, or tentacles they have, it's nice to know that aliens too can smile, cry, poop, make friends, be kind or be cruel, fall prey to peer pressure, and sometimes make a total mess of things while trying to do good.
Thanks to this extraordinary discovery from a world far, far away, serious ufologists everywhere are now rethinking their profession, while asking themselves: Do aliens really let their kids read this stuff?

HOLY TRANSFIGURATION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH
Marietta, Georgia
"We venerate Thy most pure image, O Good One..."
One of the striking characteristics of our Holy Orthodox Church is the special devotion given to the sacred images of our Lord, His Blessed Mother and all of the Saints. They adorn our churches and sanctify our homes. From our infancy, we are taught to venerate all icons with reverence and respect for the holy ones that they represent.
In the 8th century, however, the Church became embroiled in a fierce controversy over whether it was proper to treat icons in such a special way. Led by the Emperor Leo, the iconoclasts viewed such devotion as "pagan." Icons were removed from churches and all public places. Even when the 7th Ecumenical Council, which was held in Nicea in 787 A.D., declared: "ICONS ARE TO BE VENERATED; GOD ALONE IS TO BE SERVED IN FAITH," the controversy continued to rage. Scores of supporters of the Orthodox position on icons were tortured and martyred for their convictions.
In 843 A.D., Empress Irene was able to finally end this bitter conflict. On the First Sunday of Lent that year, the veneration of icons was restored to its rightful pace in the theology of the Church. It is said that a great procession with holy icons took place in the Church of the Holy Wisdom in Constantinople that day, as thousands celebrated this "Triumph of Orthodoxy." It is still customary for Orthodox faithful of all jurisdictions and ethnic backgrounds to joyfully gather in prayer on this day, marking the Church's victory over the iconoclasts. -- Weekly Bulletin, March 4, 2001
