Totnes Riverside station, South Devon Railway
Good luck to all the heritage railways who will be facing some tough challenges this year.
Literally one of my first uploads back in 2011 after opening a Flickr account, I thought this shot merited another outing. And, much to my surprise, a new session in the virtual darkroom didn't yield anything better, so it's a straightforward repost.
A clean looking class 50, unit 50047 'Swiftsure', eases slowly through Saltash station before taking the single track over Brunel's famous tubular bridge across the River Tamar. My notes tell me it was hauling a Penzance - London Paddington service, although by this time it wasn't unusual to see Mk 2 air-conditioned stock on these trains, so the Mk 1 stock might pose a few question marks as to whether London was indeed its destination. Judging by the shadows, I'm guessing it was mid-morning.
The Great Western heritage can plainly be seen with the covered footbridge and the Up platform awnings. Sadly both these features have since disappeared with the main body of the station building now repurposed and fenced-off platform side. Even the elegant stone church in the background has been replaced with a more contemporary-styled one after it burned down.
Traditional loco-hauled passenger trains are a rarity down here these days so, if you're intent on riding one, you'll likely have to catch the overnight sleeper service.
The original upload has been deleted.

A remarkably original Mark 1 Ford Cortina, still in roadworthy condition at this weekend's Shannon Car show. I always enjoy seeing cars like this that have lived a life and that have been saved from the restorer whilst they can.

Monte Vista NWR, Monte Vista, CO - I spent quite a bit of time watching this Northern Harrier Female while at the 2015 Sandhill Crane Festival. I only saw the male for a short time and they rarely came within range of my camera but they were amazing birds to watch as they circled the marshes in search of their next meal ...
Eardington Sunset
In the last rays of light, West Country Class Pacific No.34092 'City of Wells' is seen heading up Eardington Bank on the Severn Valley Railway during the Steam Gala.
Taken on the 19th Sept 2019.
A dip into the monochrome negs finds Deltic 55004 "Queen's Own Highlander" approaching Newark Northgate station with the 9.10am Kings Cross - Leeds service (1L06).
I can't see any evidence of a buffet car in the rake of Mark 1 carriages so, unless there was a trolley service, any Londoner's travelling north might be having a thirsty ride.
As can be seen the area was still under semaphore control for the most part but preparations were already under way for conversion to colour light signalling. The line going off to the right is the now defunct Great Northern branch to Bottesford, a sparsely used freight-only line back then but still deemed important enough to be part of the track rationalisation that was part of the resignalling scheme.
The arched bridge top left lies on Clay Lane. Once an ideal spot for ECML rail photography in both directions, especially with the low parapets, it's in the process of being replaced by a newer and higher structure capable of accommodating 25Kv catenary.
Thanks as always to the excellent napier-chronicles.co.uk for locomotive move details.
Not the best Deltic shot I've uploaded, but hopefully of interest given the East Coast Mainline was showing all the signs of being the neglected route to Scotland after the £ millions spent modernising the West Coast Mainline in the 1960s.

Brush class 47 no. 47089 'Amazon' burns some oil as she gingerly opens up while crossing Brunel's iconic Tamar Bridge, linking Cornwall with Devon, as she heads an Up express from the far West of England.
In 1976, seeing a Brush 4 'namer' was still something of a novelty and, being home-loving birds, usually indicated you were somewhere around the Western Region.
Shamelessly window hanging for this one, it looks like I'd had the good sense (or more likely luck) to find myself in coach 3 thus ensuring I'd get a decent view of the train crossing this Victorian masterpiece. In the background can be seen the slightly less elegant, and rather more modern, suspension bridge which carries the A38 trunk road.

Jesus Calls the First Disciples
Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

The most beautiful sports/racing car you have never heard of. This is the first Scarab (Mark1) that Lance Reventlow converted from pure racing to street legal. Powered by the Chevy Corvette's 283 bored out significantly, the car was amazingly successful.
I will add more of the incredible story tonight after chores (the rain is coming).

GWR Modified Hall Class No. 6990 'Witherslack Hall' passes Heap Bridge in charge of a Heywood to Rawtenstall service. 16/07/2017.
With frost still lurking in the shadows, the 1978 rail photography campaign got off to an early start as ETH fitted Peak no. 45148 picks up speed passing Sinfin on the outskirts of Derby with a relief train, the 12.15pm Derby - Paignton.
The bridge in the immediate background carries Sinfin Lane and the allotments (to my surprise after checking Google Earth) are still apparently there. I took this from a footbridge accessed from Caxton Street.
The shot was taken on Monday 2nd January 1978, presumably a bank holiday, and being without a car at the time, I've been scratching my head trying to figure how I got across there from Beeston - did I train it to Derby station, and then walk? It's of little consequence now I guess but, based on the welcome bit of wintry sun, it was clearly worth the effort.

I'm back again with my second entry to this year's Space Jam 2020 contest! This time around entering into the 12x12 category.
Hope the judges aren't bothered by the slight overhang of the tube hanging over the wall.
The build comes from the scene in Iron Man 1 where Tony Stark is creating the Mark1 while under arrest (or something like that) from terrorists. This is my first ever Marvel themed MOC I've done, so I'm glad to reach out to different themes! Expect some more Space Jam 2020 entries in the coming days.
We came across this scene in Joshua Tree National Park during a visit back in 2013. I really liked the trails in the sky and the sky's colour and contrast with the surrounding rocks. This was taken with my old Canon 5d Mark 1 and an old 28-105mm lens. ISO100, 1/60th Sec and F8.were the settings used.
It might be the heatwave of 1976 but it was still fairly overcast on this summer Friday down at Liskeard in Cornwall.
Captured here is Brush class 47 no. 47123 rolling in to the station with an up train of Mark 1 carriages, destination unknown, but perhaps headed to South Wales seeing as the loco was (I think) Cardiff allocated at the time.
Anyhow, more interesting than the loco is the mail trolley neatly parked against the wall, with the centre-pivot semaphore signal above it. And walking down the platform, arms behind his back and confident of his position in life, looks to be the smartly dressed Station Master wearing the BR uniform of the day, complete with tie - no sign of an orange vest here.
On the fashion front, aside from the flares, what really stands out are those shiny platform boots - didn't we all own a pair of those at sometime or other - and am I the only one who can hear 'Blockbuster' by The Sweet playing in the background?
Looks best full-screen.
