Some fast moving clouds this morning sent me out looking for some long exposure shots, So I headed to Margate to find something and the sharp lines of the Turner Contemporary building caught my eye! This is mainly mono but with a very subtle hint of blue bought back in for the sky!

Turner Contemporary is an art gallery in Margate, Kent, England, intended as a contemporary arts space and catalyst for the regeneration of the town. The title commemorates the association of the town with noted landscape painter J. M. W. Turner, who went to school there, and visited throughout his life.

I can see why Turner liked painting here. The clouds are gorgeous!

Margate Sands on a quiet midweek early afternoon in term time, with few locals or holidaymakers to enjoy the sunshine, on a day that had started unseasonably cool but was now becoming quite warm.

From a time when people could be bothered with beauty.

Happy 20204 folks, sorry for the photography silence, I just took a break sort of. Life got busy, and while I have a lot of images to sort out, I just hadnt felt like posting.

However, here is a shot taken during a visit to Margate today. I was trying to capture both the cloud pattern and the swirling sand.

On the seafront at the end of one of the main streets into town is Margate's Jubilee Clock Tower, completed in 1889, two years after Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. The rare time ball mechanism that was installed at the time of opening passed out of use at some time, but there seems to be no record that can even pin it down to a decade, let alone a date.

However, it is known when the time ball was restarted, 24 May 2014, the 125th anniversary of the official opening and, appropriately, Queen Victoria's birthdate. The time ball can be seen at the foot of the mast at the top, resting in its base position. Each day at the approach to 1 pm a ratchet mechanism raises the ball to the top of the mast and, at precisely 1 pm, the ball is released. In pre-radio days that allowed anyone in view, including ships at sea, to get a precise time fix daily.

There are thought to be sixty or more of these time balls still in existence round the world, although few of them are operational.
