The old Stardust Motel sign outside of Marfa on US 90/Old Spanish Trail Highway. Looking north towards Valentine and Van Horn.
In the early 1950s the San Jacinto Courts (motel) was built on the western edge of Marfa. The owner had a keen interest in Texas history and used the San Jacinto Monument, near LaPorte, Texas and the Houston Ship Channel, as the inspiration for his original sign. Several years later the name of the motel was changed to the Stardust Motel. You can see the original sign by clicking the info link below.

Ballroom Marfa is an internationally recognized non-collecting contemporary art museum located in Marfa, a rural town of less than 2,000 people in Far West Texas. Established in 2003 by Virginia Lebermann and Fairfax Dorn, the contemporary art and performance space is housed in a 1920s-era ballroom and is free and open to the public. With generous support from individuals and foundations, Ballroom commissions new site-specific and site-inspired projects and gives artists and musicians the opportunity to engage with the magnificent landscape of the Big Bend.

Famous Fort Worth Spudder. I believe its fame comes from being the first portable drilling rig in the United States. Early portable oil field percussion drilling rigs were called spudders. Manufacted by The Fort Worth Well Machinery and Supply Company. This decaying and apparently abandoned spudder was probably built between 1923-1930s.
Happy October 2025 Polaroid Week
Day 6
The last polaroid I took on the West Texas trip had to be the obligatory Prada Marfa photo of course.
Much thanks to Laura and the helpers for keeping the ‘Roid Week flame alive. I’m looking forward to seeing all the gems in the pool in the coming days and being inspired by everyone's creativity.
Until next time, take care, be safe and do no obey in advance. ❤
