Healthy living.......... my five a day !

Ice Cream Therapy [196/365] - It never fails. When a girl is having relationship troubles, ice cream is the best method when it comes to dealing with emotions. Today one of my good friends was having a bit of a bad day, so we headed to Marble Slab for some ice cream therapy. Of course, being the great friend that I am, I indulged in a bowl as well. This was amazing.. birthday cake ice cream with M&M's... mm.

Bara Bagh, small cenotaphs of the mahârâwal, the rulers of Jaisalmer.

A style I often do, straight leading lines converging in the center to infinity?

While in L.A. we visited the Getty Center and took an architectural tour and garden tour as well as visit some of the exhibits.

The center was designed by Richard Meier. An inspiring modern design. One of the consistent finishes was 30" square slabs of marble and 30" square aluminum panels.

Some of the lines run the length of the buildings. The buildings were commonly oriented 22 1/2 degrees from one another. Much thought went into the design of every aspect of the buildings and gardens surrounding the complex.

The focus on these isn't the best, but they are rare point & shoot shots I was able to make without a flash.

Created: T5I, Macro lens, 1 bowl of ice cream from Marble Slab, Adobe Photoshop CS6, redfield Fractalius filter pack (link below).

The Redfield Fractalius filter has a bunch of settings and I adjusted them until I had an image I like.

Here is the link for more details on the filter package: www.redfieldplugins.com/filterFractalius.htm

Revisited a series I did last year and dug this one out. I have a portrait version I posted last year. This time I added a few textures and tweaked some on the image.

Times are getting tough. I haven't shot anything new in about a month and I'm growing tired of visiting the archives.

Thanks to SkeletalMess again for his wonderful textures.

It;s Tuesday again. We all know what that means. HFDT!!!! I'm not really proud or even happy with this, but it's better than nothing. That's what I get for waiting to come up with an idea. I need to start planning for next Tuesday now.

The people in the seats laughed and whispered among themselves when I was taking these. Glad I amused someone!

This is the cake we got for my daughter, Maddie, for her birthday. It was an ice cream cake from Marble Slab that was made from Sweet Cream ice cream and strawberries...two of her favorites!! We all enjoyed it...

The tetrastyle cruciform Church of St John is a good example of its 13th C. type, made particularly interesting by the incorporation in its walls of many ancient carved marble slabs and sculptured reliefs.

[A Graeco-Roman tombstone with four standing figures was also set in the W. wall, but sadly it was stolen in 2001. I will attach a picture of it (next photo) , from the Greenhalgh & Eliopoulos book, "Deep into Mani", 1985]

from "the marble slab" creamery. i think this is a copycat of the cold stone creamery. they also mix in your ingredients on a marble slab. hence the name. HOWEVER, whenever i heard the name, i think of the morgue.

I decided I wanted to do a portrait series of everyone that works at Marble Slab and call it Faces of Marble Slab. I figured I'd shoot myself first because I'm always around when I need me. I don't know what this face is. We'll call it my no nonsense serious face. There's only 8 employees. Shouldn't take too long.......

One of my coworkers came in today and commented that we had the same sunglasses. So, naturally, I said we needed to get a picture of them. I brought in my lighting gear (I keep it in my car now for just such occasions) for an impromptu photo shoot. You can see the reflection of the umbrella in my glasses! She said they're "thug glasses" so this was us trying to be thug....

This is Faces of Marble Slab portrait number six. This is Teresa. She's been telling me she'll let me take her picture for a while now, but I'm glad we finally got around to it. What a sport.

The cordoned off section right in front of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. There is a underground plaza being constructed right in front of the Golden Temple, and the construction has been going on for quite some time and you can see some of the undergound levels. This is a photo of multiple workers at the site. These workers are cutting and polishing marble slabs, and you can also see buildings on the side.

The Golden Temple is one of the most famous monuments in Amritsar, in the state of Punjab in North India. It is the spiritiual headquarters of the Sikh religion, and is a very well visited place. Besides Sikhs, people from other religions visit the temple, it being an open place. The temple is also referred to as the Harmandir Sahib or the Darbar Sahib, and was built during the 16th century by the fifth Sikh Guru (completed in the year 1604), Guru Arjan Dev around a holy tank. Earlier to this, in 1577, the fourth Guru, Guru Ram Das ji excavated a tank which came to be known as Amritsar. The Harmandir Sahib symbolizes openess, and has four doors to depict the same. Over a period of time, modifications were done, such as the layering of gold over the dome by the ruler of the time, Maharajah Ranjit Singh.

The holy nature of the Golden Temple is also symbolized by the presence of the Holy Book of the Sikhs, the Guru Granth Sahib. The central structure of the Gurudwara is surrounded by a holy tank of water, with a causeway over this body of water. There are some restrictions for entering the site, such as the removal of shoes before entering (and washing ones feet in a small pool of water as well), covering the hair through a scarf or some other cloth, and ensuring that they show proper respect towards the central shrine.

The Golden Temple is also the location for a major military operation (Operation Blue Star in 1984), where the Indian Army went in against Sikh militants lead by Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale inside the compound of the Golden Temple, with bullets and even machine guns inside the compound. The operation was a major operation, with the death of more than 500 people reported (including soldiers, militants and civilians). It was also very controversial, since this was seen as an attack on the spiritual center of Sikhs, and lead to some desertions in the army, and also an attack on the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, by her own Sikh bodyguards which resulted in her death.

Terry knows how to juggle. Cause he's awesome. And he is teaching me so I too may be awesome.

I really hate the hard shadows. But I suppose that's what I get when I use the cramped back of an ice cream store as a studio.....
