Colón Cemetery, Havana
Rather like Père Lachaise in Paris, a visit to the Colón cemetery is very much on Havana’s tourist agenda. Named after Cristóbal Colón (Christopher Columbus), the visitor can see all manner of designs and architecture here: Romanesque, Byzantine, gothic towers, Greek pavilions, medieval castles, Art Deco and even Pyramids. There's a lot of marble here!
Colón is an open-air museum as much as a necropolis. Nobody knows for sure how many graves are here – some estimates put the number at 800,000; others more than a million.
