The glossy, nightmarish classic "Marathon Man" (1976), penned by William Goldman, hit the Korean video shelves via the glossy CIC label. The film's jarring bursts of violence and trauma, including a hair-raising attempted garroting and the infamous dental torture scene, get some play on the back cover. The Korean censors did some of their own surgery on some of the more graphic scenes. A DVD release, circa 2001, presented the film in its uncut form.
Dentophobia-Fear of dentists. At an early and impressionable age, I saw Dustin Hoffman in "Marathon Man." The torture scene in the beginning of the movie is profoundly horrible--it is a dentist doing the torture and he uses dental tools on Dustin Hoffman--please, parents, do NOT let your children see that until at least they are legal to drive!
Then again, kids so so much violence and other horrible stuff, they're probably not as impressionable as I was/am... I grew up without TV and still don't watch it. (I am a complete cinephile, though--I would love to go the movies every single day.)
Anyway... "Marathon Man" scarred me.
Probably the time I got my wisdom teeth extracted without general anesthesia (just novacaine that wore off) probably didn't help, either.

Ray was very kind to give me an hour or two of him time for a portrait session. Ray Matthews hit the headlines in 2016 by running 75 marathons in 75 days for his 75th birthday! He's a brilliant bloke, selfless and a true inspiration.

After Szell (Laurence Olivier) arrives in America, Doc (Roy Scheider) meets him to tell the former Nazi he is not welcome in the country, and to warn Szell to stay away from Babe (Dustin Hoffman). Szell casually accepts the pronouncement, but then swiftly knifes Doc, wounding him severely.
