This shot is a sunrise in Marathon, Florida, in the Keys. Glad you stopped by, have a blessed Sunday!
Flowering Fennel. The Greek term is marathon. It was in Fennel Field in 490 BC that the Greeks fought off the Persian invasion. Today's long distance run refers to this history. Now and then, Fennel has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes. Flowers shot indoors, five LED spotlights used. JPEG processed in Luminar and macOS High Sierra.
The 1892 depot for the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railroad ( later Southern Pacific) on the eastern edge of Marathon. Located on the old Sunset Route which still runs from New Orleans to Los Angeles.
Angie's Snack Shack Cafe & Laundromat appears to be permanently closed. The building looks like a repurposed vintage Gulf Station.
Juvenile ruby-throated hummingbird photographed in Tioga County PA. Stretching the muscles before the long trip south.
Taken at the Fort William marathon earlier this year. Still miles to go and the empty road stretches ahead.
The Marathon Dam is a gravity dam on the Charadros River, near its junction with the Varnavas Stream, 8 km (5 mi) west of Marathon and 45 km (28 mi) northeast of Athens in Greece. The dam created Lake Marathon for the primary purpose of municipal water supply. Constructed between 1926 and 1929, it was the sole supplier of water to Athens until 1959. The dam is often cited for its role in the modernization of Greece and the first recorded case of seismic activity associated with reservoir inundation. It was also designed to be symbolic of Ancient Greece, particularly Athenians and the Battle of Marathon.
As NS 8098 was making its way through Steward, I told my railfan friend to follow me to catch it at the curve at McGirr Road, a few miles to the southeast from Steward. The BNSF Aurora Sub is nothing if not curvey, and the crossing at McGirr Rd. features a large, sweeping one. We made it to the grade crossing with not much time to spare, though it required heavy-footed driving. Due to it's location, this curve is often overlooked. In fact, I still have yet to see another photograph taken here (though I'm sure there are many).

A new piece of heavy metal for my running collection- for today's PF Changs Rock 'n Roll Marthon in Phoenix.
26.2 frigging miles. Do I Hate Running?
The first half was pleasent, the second half grueling.
