Black squirrels are very common in my area. They are a melanistic subgroup of the Eastern Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis). They seem more aggressive than other squirrels, at least in my yard, so much so that only black squirrels remain by autumn, and they are continuously chasing each other as well as any other squirrels remaining.
This one was seen amid the fallen autumn leaves on a trail along West Grand Traverse Bay, near the point of Old Mission Peninsula, Peninsula Township, Michigan.
"Splatter Art" created by someone better than Jackson Pollock...Mother Nature.
Jackson Pollock created his "masterpieces" by running around and dropping paint on a large canvas on the floor. Some of his "art" has sold for millions of dollars, one reportedly for two hundred million dollars. If you like splatter art, Mother Nature creates it for free :-))
If you are not into splatter, click twice on the picture to see the enlargement for detail of the maple leaves and blades of grass.

Walking near the Dungeness River I noticed these lovely maple leaves in the woods. I always feel the presence of a special feeling and spirit in the quiet forest.
"I understood at a very early age that in nature, I felt everything that I should feel in church but never did. Walking in the woods, I felt in touch with the universe, and with the spirit of the universe." ~ Alice Walker
And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it. ~ Roald Dahl
I want to hang on the colors of autumn all year.
"If only humans could die like the autumn leaves, with a splash of beauty and the promise of another season."

"Notice that autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature." ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
In my element this morning. I loved to see drops on wild grass. Peaceful and quiet.
Yes, the D810 did survive the rain without the lens hood from September 12 ;-) See first comment.

I know...another leaf. But this won't last for long. Autumn's beauty is much to fleeting.
As always, thank you all for taking a peek at my page!
I think that autumn is often the best season for leaves. Whilst we all enjoy seeing new leaves in spring after the barren season of winter, it is in autumn that we get to notice all the fine veining, delicate textures and sharp edges of the leaves as they change colour and array themselves in their autumnal costumes of reds, browns, oranges and golds.
Autumn is now well and truly with us here in Melbourne, and the cooler winds of seasonal change are blowing away the remnants of summer, like it tosses the red, gold and orange leaves that carpet the ground.
The other day was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions and take some photographs. This includes these wonderful golden yellow English maple leaves in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.
Shot at the inn we stayed at in late December. Also the first trip with Canon Powersot G5 X, which I bought in December.
When I was a child, I was told by my beloved grandparents that the winged seed pods of English maple trees were translucent faerie wings waiting to be collected by their new owners.
Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple. When I took this photo, it was still mid autumn, and it was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions and take some photographs. As it was, this is just one of hundreds that I took.
As it is a very wintery and rainy day today, grey and overcast, I thought I would brighten things up with a bit of colour.
In più dorata luce
Vedo
Ogni piccolo dubbio e paura,
Ogni piccola discordia di quaggiù sparita.
(Emily Dickinson)
In a serener Bright,
In a more golden light
I see
Each little doubt and fear,
Each little discord here
Removed.
(Emily Dickinson, the last stanza from her poem no. 5)
O stört sie nicht, die Feier der Natur!
Dies ist die Lese, die sie selber hält,
Denn heute löst sich von den Zweigen nur,
Was von dem milden Strahl der Sonne fällt.
Christian Friedrich Hebbel
