We had a visit, more a raid, by a heron two days ago. Some fish were taken, but the survivors have been taking refuge since under the pump. We saw a heron in our garden during the winter and scared it away, but they never forget a possible source of food!

The day before was golden and sunny, with an early spring warmth pushing back the chill in the air. The grass was green, and the hazy sun filtered through the trees. But spring can be volatile, and over night a storm rolled through the Virginia hills, dumping snow and resetting spring back to winter. This photo is of the golf course, which was green and sunny the day before, with deer grazing here and there. Now winter has reclaimed the fairways. But on the ground you can see the tracks of a couple determined to have their walk together despite the weather. There's something about companionship that can take the sting out of the coldest day. I shot this with an inexpensive little prime from Zonlai.
