Io una mantide così non l'avevo mai vista.. Sempre e solo mantidi verdi. Perciò, anche se posso sembrare ripetitiva, l'ho fotografata. Bellissimo ed affascinante insetto!
Forse "Ameles decolor"?? Mi piacerebbe saperlo..
La mantide religiosa è un insetto affascinante diffuso in tutto il mondo ed è un'ottima scelta come animale domestico. Anche le persone a cui non piacciono gli insetti possono rimanere ammaliati dalla bellezza di una mantide religiosa, quando ruota la testa dietro le spalle per guardarti (è l'unico insetto che può farlo!) .
Esistono mantidi religiose di molti colori, ad esempio rosa come un fiore (la mantide religiosa delle orchidee - Hymenopus coronatus) e bianche, anche se la maggior parte sono verdi o marroni. Il tipo di specie di mantide che potrai tenere dipende da dove vivi e se otterrai il tuo esemplare dalla natura o da un negozio di animali esotici. Allevare una mantide religiosa è piuttosto semplice, molto divertente, e probabilmente imparerai molto riguardo questo insetto unico e divertente osservando le sue stranezze.

Descripció:
Insecte allargat que fa uns 6-7 cm de longitud. El cap té molta mobilitat i amb els dos ulls compostos grans té un ample camp de visió.
Té sis potes, de les quals les 2 potes del davant són les que utilitza per capturar les preses.
El mascle té ales ben desenvolupades i pot volar.
L'abdomen de les femelles és més gruixut que el dels mascles.
És de color verd, marró o grogós, segons el terreny per on es mou.
Alimentació:Menja altres insectes que captura esperant tranquil·lament que se li apropin.
Reproducció:Es reprodueix per ous. Els posa a la tardor dins ooteques sota les pedres o enganxades a branques. Les ooteques tenen aspecte d'esponges i contenen uns 200 ous.
Cap a finals de primavera neixen les nimfes que muden 6 vegades fins a esdevenir adultes.
Hàbitat:
Viu en zones ben assolellades i descobertes, amb vegetació baixa o esclarissada.
Costums:És habitual que la femella es mengi al mascle després de l'aparellament.
Altres informacions:Al món hi ha més de 100 espècies de màntids, però a Catalunya només podem trobar 8 espècies diferents.
La femmina è lunga circa 7,5 cm, il maschio 6 cm. La sua colorazione varia dal verde brillante al marrone chiaro. Si distingue facilmente per la presenza di due chiazze nere, una per ogni zampa anteriore, simili ad un occhio quando mostrate a scopo difensivo.
La mantide religiosa deve il suo nome apparentemente curioso a una sua caratteristica fisica: la posizione simile a una persona che prega.
Questo insetto, infatti, ha una posizione abituale delle zampe anteriori a riposo, che ricordano le mani giunte in preghiera. La stessa parola mantide deriva dal greco Mantis, ossia profeta.
Come per tantissimi altri insetti, anche nella mantide religiosa si riscontrano delle differenze tra esemplari maschi e esemplari femmine.
La femmina adulta è lunga circa 7,5 cm mentre il maschio adulto circa 6 cm. Inoltre, il ventre del maschio è articolato in 8 segmenti, che diventano 6 nelle femmine.
Le mantidi europee sono solitamente di colore verde brillante, ma possono virare fino al marrone chiaro. Hanno una grande chiazza nera su ciascuna delle zampe anteriori e due paia di ali, in corrispondenza delle zampe mediane e posteriori.
Una caratteristica particolare di questi insetti è la presenza di un unico orecchio, posto al centro del torace.

The praying mantis owes its apparently curious name to one of its physical characteristics: the position similar to a person who prays.
This insect, in fact, has a habitual position of the front legs at rest, reminiscent of hands joined in prayer. The word mantis itself comes from the Greek Mantis, meaning prophet.
As with many other insects, also in the praying mantis there are differences between male and female specimens.

European mantises are usually bright green in color but can turn light brown. They have a large black patch on each of their front legs and two pairs of wings, corresponding to the middle and hind legs.

Don't see them very often, but here I found one and it had adopted the colour of the yellow flowers it moved between.
You can easily pick then up and watch how they turn their head if you move them around. (and place them back afterwards of course).

Une rencontre tant espérée...
À voir ici ces espèces de pics effilés qui ornent le dessous de ses pattes antérieures, on peut comprendre la puissance redoutable de ce gros insecte Européen introduit en Amérique du Nord à la fin du 19e siècle. En ce magnifique dimanche d'automne ensoleillé, je suis allé au Centre écologique Fernand-Seguin en compagnie de Yves Roy, un de ses terrains de jeux préférés, à la recherche d'une Chouette ou d'un Grand-duc. C'était le calme plat. Même pour les passereaux. À peine aurai-je observé quelques mésanges et une sittelle. Mais comme à chacune de me sorties avec Yves nous rencontrons toujours de belles surprises, c'est à la toute fin de cette belle balade qu'il aura localisé, grâce à son oeil de Lynx, cette fascinante Mante toute brune comme les herbes séchées dans lesquelles elle se trouvait. Très fort ce Yves! J'espérais cette rencontre depuis mes tout débuts en photographie animalière. Je l'avais croisé qu'une seule fois, une verte, à l'âge de 10 ans. Horrifié alors je l'avais à peine regardé. L'image est encore bien imprégnée dans mes souvenirs. C'est donc près de 50 ans plus tard, que j'ai eu le grand plaisir de l'observer à nouveau. Aucunement horrifié cette fois-ci! Quel plaisir! Grand merci Mr. Roy!
Il s'agirait ici d'une femelle puisqu'elle nous présente de façon fort éloquente, les six segments de son abdomen, identifiés comme étant des sternums chez les insectes. Le mâle quant à lui en compte huit.
Many adult Mantids are quite large but in their earlier, smaller instars, they are often excellent ant-mimics. If the thorax and raptorial forelegs of this one are regarded as part of the 'head', it's not hard to imagine that a bird might view it as a big-headed ant with powerful jaws studded with sharp, fearsome teeth.

And here is the complete mantid, about 55mm long. It was at a location where taking a picture was difficult, so invited it onto a stick and placed it somewhere else where I could choose the background, very docile creatures...
Part of our Insect Photography course. I have the students spend considerable time with just white and black backgrounds. We were fortunate to have a nice Mantid as a subject this week.
I am not sure the camouflage is working but this 14mm juvenile was waiting for small nectar or pollen seekers on this daisy on a sunny morning.
Mantid shot after dark. Apparently cleaning her antenna. Saw several of these in grassy areas. Their colors blend in with the grass making them very hard to see.

Archimantis monstrosa is a species of mantid in the family Mantidae. A. monstrosa, or monster mantis, commonly reaches a length of 90mm or more. It is less common than the often-seen large brown mantis. A. monstrosa that live near the coast can get quite large and sometimes will attack much larger prey.
Found this little guy outside our back door a couple of days ago. Didnt expect to see a mantis this time of year.
