Spring is already here. The California Central Valley has lots of almonds trees. Today we drove to a rocket launch at Snow Ranch, a big 7000 acres farm east of Stockton. We stopped to enjoy the many rows of almond trees.
I processed a balanced, and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

La Taberna Casa Manteca is one of the essential visits in our tapas outing in Cádiz and that over time has become one of the most famous bars in Andalusia.
Casa Manteca is located in the heart of the La Viña neighborhood, the golden area of the carnival in Cádiz.

On the way back near sunset we stopped to enjoy the many rows of almond trees. I used the Dream Lens to take a backlit bokeh shot of the almond blossoms.

Matt Zimbel is a percussionist and founding member of Manteca, one of the more famous Canadian jazz ensembles. I am not even sure if he had chosen his name or his name determinated his musical career. He only has two hands, but somehow manages to hit 6 noisemakers at once. (In English, cimbalom is also known as struck zither or hammered dulcimer.) Btw; His father was photographer, so his family name probably did not play a role shaping his future.

An archived 35mm scanned photo from the year 1990...at Oakwood Lake (Manteca Waterslide now closed) in Manteca, CA. Taken very early in the morning through foggy conditions. That's the sun peeking through the thick fog. One of my very early 'car shots'.

While there are numerous tenants in this shopping center located on South Main St. in Manteca,CA. I must make note of the Safeway store which up until Fall 2008 was a PaknSave Foods and the closing of the Mervyn's Department Store.
Former Texaco Gas Station located off Highway 99 in rural Manteca,CA. This was originally a Texaco Gas Station then by 2000 was branded under the Exxon name. In 2005 the place was rebranded once again this time under the Arco name.
Here is the gas station back in 1997 when it was a Texaco...
Texaco Gas Station located off Highway 99 in rural Manteca,CA.
When I took this photo in 1997 this was the only Texaco I had seen operating in Northern California.
While there were a few others I wasnt aware of, this one was really noteworthy to me again because it was the first I had seen in the area. Texaco Gas Stations this specific location became an Exxon. Then about 18 months ago it became an Arco Gas Station.
Mervyns Department Store located at 1055 South Main St. in Manteca,CA. Like the entire Mervync chain this store closed late in December 2008...
Former Alpha Beta Market located at 1391 East Yosemite Ave. in Manteca,CA. The building is currently occupied by Big Boy Market. Ive posted numerous pictures of this store but I was in the area and took a few more. I dont know how they get enough business since everytime I come here only five or so people are here shopping. The AB tiles remain on the left and right sides of the store and one of these days the store will likely close and I will get right on to see how I could acquire the tiles.
UPDATEL The store closed in September 2008. Of course I was right on down there days after its closure. I had a few tools with me to make an effort to at least expose the AB tiles. It turns out that this store built in December 1970 was old enough to have the large AB patterns. By 1974 the AB tiles consisted of four tiles, but these older stores had the AB across sixteen tiles! I made an effort but uncovering the sixteen tiles would be enough for "property damage". So for the sake of the building, the owner of the building, and not being arrested I called it quits. Im having a hell of a time trying to find the owner of the building but I dont really know what I would ask since these tiles (on closer review) are really part of the structure and the removal would be out of the question unless the whole shopping center would be demolished.
Former Alpha Beta Market located at 1391 East Yosemite Ave. in Manteca,CA. The building is currently occupied by a Big Boy Market. Sadly the store has received very little business and I wonder which day will be the last for this market. All of the other supermarkets in Manteca are newer or have been updated. Aside from the Big Boy signage very little has been done to this store since it was an Alpha Beta.

UPDATE: The store closed in September 2008 after fifty years serving Manteca, Twenty-Four of which were at the site of the former Alpha Beta.
Former Allied Van Lines building located on North Main St. in Manteca,CA This building looks to have been vacant for quite sometime. It will likely be demolished in the near future and thus I took some photos of the building with its folded plate awning.

Amateur astrophotographer Javier Manteca captured the International Space Station as flew in front of the Moon on 5 February.
While most eyes were on the change of command ceremony taking place inside the Space Station ahead of ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano’s return to Earth, Javier set up his gear to track the Station from the small town of Campo Real in Madrid, Spain.
Using a camera attached to a 150/750 telescope recording at 25 frames per second, Javier captured the 690 millisecond transit on video and composed this image made from 17 stacked frames.
For Javier, this was a moment two years in the making. He posted the image to his Twitter and Instagram, where you can find more of his work.
Luca returned to Earth the day after this photo, on 6 February, ending a record-breaking 201 days in space for his Beyond mission.
Highlights of his mission include four complex sorties that earned him the European record for most cumulative hours spent on spacewalks, remotely operating a rover in the Netherlands from space, and being the first Italian European commander of the Station.
Another European milestone was met this week. The Orion spacecraft that will fly around the Moon on the Artemis-1 mission completed thermal-vacuum testing in the world’s largest vacuum chamber at NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Ohio, USA.
ESA’s contribution to the mission is the European Service Module that will power the vehicle as well as provide electricity, water, oxygen and nitrogen and keep the spacecraft at the right temperature and on course.
From 26 December until 9 February, the spacecraft was subjected to environmental temperatures varying from –175°C to 75°C to give it its first taste of space. Read more about it on the ESA Orion blog. The spacecraft will be reconfigured for electromagnetic testing, to begin at the end of the month.

Former Lucky Store located at 1172 North Main St. in Manteca,CA. A large number of Central Valley Lucky locations were sold to Save Mart during the mid 1990's. Just about all are still operating under the Save Mart name. Coincidentally Save Mart brought back the "Lucky" name in the SF Bay Area in 2007. Only 72 stores were rebranded as "Lucky Stores".

Las sombras son el shock , el impacto visual que estremece el espíritu;"el golpe de gracia " que enamora y arrebata.
De las sombras surge poder, arrojo, valentía; y por ellas tenemos magnificencia, poderío, majestad
