Armstrong, Commander, stands on the right at the flag's staff while Astronaut Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., Lunar Module Pilot adjusts the flag itself. After transmitting the egress of both Astronauts and their first steps on the lunar surface, the camera was mounted to a tripod and placed a short distance from the Lunar Module (LM) by Armstrong. While Astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin descended in the LM "Eagle" to explore the Sea of Tranquility region of the Moon, Astronaut Michael Collins, Command Module Pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) "Columbia" in lunar orbit.
