“There is a waterfall in every dream. Cool and crystal clear, it falls gently on the sleeper, cleansing the mind and soothing the soul.”

This past weekend I was on a trip to Western/Central portion of Kentucky based around viewing the Great American Eclipse. Since I was a little late on the ball (February) securing lodging I ended finding a place on the southern most section of Rough River Lake, a little under two hours from our viewing destination. After visiting a privately owned arch, we decided to head up to an area called The Falls Of Rough, a man made dam on the Rough River. I had been wanting to visit here for years and unfortunately I was unable to visit before one of the abandoned buildings of the Green Brothers Mill collapsed along the river, but that is OK. It was still cool anyway and a great time with some great friends!
City of Edmonton build this waterfall on the high level bridge many years ago. It used to be turned on quite often during the summer and was on all day long now it is only turned on holidays for a couple of hours in the evening. It is a very popular attraction when it's on.

Downtown Durham, NC. The old tobacco warehouses and manufacturing buildings are put to other uses these days, creating a lovely space for leisure in the heart of the downtown district.

Last Friday I was surprised by a text from my good friend and Static Brother Jeremy Chapman that he would be in the Cincinnati area over the weekend and wanted to know about some local falls to shoot. So I told him that if I was feeling up to it I would see about us meeting up and doing some shooting as I was deep in the grips of what was hands down the worst cold I've ever had. So Saturday around noon I started dopplar watching since we were in our 7th straight day of rain, and figured I would suck it up and asked him meet me near Sharon Woods in Sharonville, Ohio around 3 pm. Being a little late and taking the short drive into the park gave the rain enough time to move on out. For the last 10 years I've been shooting I've rarely paid attention to the two man made waterfalls on Sharon Creek, but today since I had someone who'd never been to the park I figured I'd show them to him and I'm glad did. After spending some time at the lowermost falls we walked up to the bridge just upstream to have a look at the uppermost and boy was it flowing! I had never shot from the bridge before, although I've seen many photos, and decided to take a few for the hell of it. Then Jeremy noticed a blue heron fishing near the right side of the creek and I just couldn't resist getting a few shots of the bird in the scene as it stood there stoically watching us. He didn't sit still long but that was ok, it worked out fine. It turned out to be an awesome evening shooting falls, hitting the Carew Tower Observation Deck in the fog, shooting the Roebling Suspension Bridge and dinner at Arnold's Bar and Grill! Jeremy got a crash course in Cincinnati scenery that's for sure, definitely a great time with a great friend!
I have to go out of town over the weekend...Will be back on Monday.
Hope you all have an awesome weekend! :o))

"Waterfall"
Rainbow Springs State Park.
I was hoping to make an attempt to see a real waterfall for this theme. But I live in Florida, which is basically flat and maybe only has about 3-4 natural waterfalls, mostly in the northern portion of the state, about a 2+ hour drive away. But what we lack in natural waterfalls, we more than make up for it with man-made ones.
This is located in Rainbow Springs State Park, in the western part of my county. It's very popular area for swimming in the headsprings, as well as tubing and kayaking down the Rainbow River that stem from the springs. However, before it was a state park, it was privately run, and had 3 man-made waterfalls constructed during that time.
Because of all the tree coverage where these are located, I didn't even need a neutral density filter to slow the shutter speed down. I just used a polarizer to reduce the glare to an amount that I thought looked nice. However, I struggled to get a good composition because of fence and sign placement.
This was a still shot that I took at the ponds on Jenkins Estate.. I used the App by Corel called PhotoMirage to create the movement of the falls and with another program called Camtasia I added the waterfall sounds... This sort of thing is a fun project for me...
This scenic city waterfall is in the Rouge River on the grounds of The Henry Ford Estate, also known as Fairlane, in Dearborn, MI.; and is located just a stones throw away from the Ford World Headquarters. The fall is not a natural one as it was built during the construction of the 56 room mansion and powerhouse. Yes, he had his own power house and battery room just adjacent to this fall. The mansion sits just upstream from the fall also.

The Cascading waterfall by the pond in Central Park,
There are at least five waterfalls in Central Park, and all are completely man-made. Most are located in the Ravine, the stream valley section of the North Woods.
The water that flows through them is New York City drinking water that comes from a 48-inch pipe hidden by the rocks at the Pool Grotto on West 100th Street, yet the waterfalls look very natural. Charming stone bridges cross the stream, and the area is cool and quiet.
Watching the water gush down the giant boulders into dark ponds, it is easy to forget you are in the middle of Manhattan.

A water feature outside my local shopping center where I often sit and have a coffee.
The 9/11 Memorial includes two pools that are constructed in the "footprints" of the World Trade Center towers. The pools' most dynamic feature is the water that cascades 30 feet over the dark granite walls on all four sides of the square pools. The water then collects in a large reflecting pool that has a square opening in the center, over which the water cascades an additional 20 feet. These are the largest man-made falls in the United States.
Dimensions of the pools:
Size: approx. 1 acre each (4000 sq. m)
Perimeter: 192 feet X 192 feet (58.5 m X 58.5 m).

In Seattle on business and made a quick side trip to the downtown REI... and was stunned to find this beautiful scene next to the parking garage. I spent a couple of hours getting different shots of this scene in one form or another.

I was driving along westbound I70 through Colorado when I saw this dam. I made sure I didn't miss the exit for this area. Wonderful scenery but would have been better if the sky wasn't overcast. Used 7 different exposures and combined using photomatix.
