Manly Beach, NSW @ Australia

So it's back to the beach here in Sydney.

This is another image from my sunset trek to Shelly Beach.

The view here looks across Cabbage Tree Bay to Manly Beach.

You park your car in the carpark up above Shelly Beach - at the end of Bower Street. Watch out for parking rangers, lol.

Then walk throught the sub-tropical rainforest along the Shelly Beach Walking Track, to emerge onto the rocky northern end of the headland.

And to accompany the 'rock star' theme here is, arguably, one of the greatest rock stars, Elton John, with 'Crocodile Rock':

And to match the blue colour of the ocean in Sydney, here is my most favourite chick from IMY2, Annalise, with her magical blue hair singing awesome cover versions of 'Crazy' and 'Blinding Lights':

Now I think Annalise should visit Sydney and do a music video by the beach here at Manly. I will get her a coffee & lunch, lol.

And then she might want to see a Sydney harbour sunset.

I know a place, or two!!

One of my favourite sunset destinations in Sydney, when I don't go to the harbour. There's the sunset at the beach, and then there's coffee at Manly!! Try 'Showbox Coffee Brewers', 'Barefoot Coffee Traders', 'Skittle Lane' or 'Venice'.

This is the view looking towards Manly Beach and up the coast along Sydney's northern beaches. Cabbage Tree Bay is to the left of the image.

Photographed from the rocks at the northern end of the Shelly Beach Headland and walking track. Park your car at the end of Bower Street and walk through the forest to the beach. Awesome. Lots of birds, feathered and otherwise, lol.

This is view looking north across the ocean to Manly Beach, and then, in succession, all the northern beaches of Sydney.

In order, these beaches include: Manly, Queenscliff, Harbord, Curl Curl, Dee Why, Long Reef, Collaroy, Narrabeen, Mona Vale, Newport, Bilgola, Whale Beach and Palm Beach. In this photo you can see as far north as Long Reef Beach.

They are all mega cool, and I prefer them to the more famous Bondi Beach, in terms of overall beauty and serenity.

When my daughters were little I would take them to these beaches where they learnt to surf. We especially liked Bilgola Beach with its towering cliffs and gorgeous ocean pool. Plus there was a groovy cafe right at the beachside where I could get amazing coffee, and ice-creams for the girls.

Queenscliff Beach, in Sydney, as viewed from the Queenscliff Ocean Swimming Pool.

Looking south-east towards the Manly Surf Beach.

Photographed near sunset, on one of my expeditions to Manly, Queenscliff, Fairy Bower and Shelly Beach. It takes about 40 minutes to drive to the coast from my home in northwestern Sydney, and I sometimes do this on summer evenings after work, when it remains light until after 9.00pm.

So you walk along the beach, or, if you prefer, the coastal walkway beneath the Norfolk Pine trees, from Queenscliff to Manly, and then, if you are adventurous, around the coast to Shelly Beach via Fairy Bower.

And, on the return walk, there are many places to eat along Manly Beach, notably Kazzi's Greek Restaurant, right opposite the Manly Surf School. Great for salads with olives & feta cheese, whilst watching the surf action.

Manly Beach

Sydney, Australia

June, 2019

A beautiful and busy Manly Beach, just a short ferry ride for Sydney's CBD.

Well it's almost summer.

In just three day's time it will be 'Summer In Sydney', for 2024-2025.

But it's already summer here at Fairy Bower, near Manly Beach.

In the distance is Shelly Beach headland and the Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve.

Fairy Bower, located between Manly Beach and Shelly Beach, is one of my favourite Sydney summer destinations. The ocean walkway is a treasure of seaside scenery and - most importantly - cafes right on the boardwalk.

Let's go.....

And here's Billy Thorpe with 'It's Almost Summer' from way back in Australian pop music history - in the summer of 1975:

Tonight in Sydney.

Saturday, 14th October, 2023.

Taken about three hours ago at Shelly Beach, near Manly.

Northern end of the Shelly Beach Walking Track.

So I finished work earlier than expected today, and I thought, instead of going into the city to get more Darling Harbour pictures, I would instead stroll over to the beach and see what was happening at Manly.

Shelly Beach (next to Manly) is about 40 minutes drive from the Hills District - so not too bad. It is about the same as going into the city. AND, by miracle, there was a lot of parking on the headland up above the beach. And, even better, after 7.00pm it is FREE. And I arrived at 6.50pm, so it was very fortuitous.

AND, whilst I was sitting on the rocks, beside the surf, taking the sunset pictures, these amazing young women suddenly turned up out of nowhere! They were backpackers from France and they all love photography.

They post on Instagram but I introduced them to Flickr, and they downloaded the Flickr app at the beach. I also told them about Pyrmont Point (that I only recently discovered), and they will check it out to get photos of Sydney harbour and the Jones Bay Wharf, etc. And I must say, I really like French accents. Superb (that's a French word, lol)

Barangaroo is a waterfront district in Sydney, Australia, located next to Darling Harbour. Formerly an industrial area and container port, it has been transformed into a modern development with skyscrapers, parks, and cultural spaces. Named after an Indigenous leader of the Eora Nation, it highlights the area's historical significance. The district is divided into three sections: Barangaroo Reserve, a public park with walking trails and green spaces; Central Barangaroo, featuring cultural and entertainment venues; and Barangaroo South, a financial hub with office buildings, hotels, and restaurants. It is a model of sustainable urban planning, with eco-friendly buildings and efficient public transport. The Crown Sydney tower, a luxury hotel and casino, is one of its landmarks. Barangaroo also hosts corporate offices and retail spaces. It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals due to its waterfront views and leisure options. The development has sparked debates about balancing conservation and modernization.

autumn, Manly beach, Sydney, March 2022. Ref. #222340506.

Early autumn but more like the end of summer, 25C and close to 100% humidity. Stormy seas have removed about 2m of sand from the beach, and the waves and strong currents made it too dangerous to swim. I was looking for a balanced composition, the two seagulls were a bonus.
