fishing for trees at Green Lakes State Park, Manlius NY

In 1907, the West Shore Railroad was electrified between the cities of Utica and Syracuse,NY. The Oneida Railway Company shared the ROW with the W.S. until operations ceased on Dec. 31, 1930. After that, all passenger servivce between the two cities was discontinued. Passenger service did however continue on the West Shore to the east of Utica and to the west of Syracuse for a few more years. Passenger service on the West Shore's River division between NJ and Albany, NY was the last to be discontinued in the late 1950's. In 1912, The Oneida Railway Company as well as a number of other interurbans in the state merged to form New York State Railways, which was owned by the New York Central Railroad. Since the Utica & Mohawk Railway was part of this merger, and shared the ROW with the West Shore Railroad between Mohawk and Frankfort, NY, its schedule of operations are also included within this timetable. It is possible that this is the last, or one of the last passenger timetables for the West Shore Railroad between Utica and Syracuse, NY. It is dated April 28, 1929; a little over a year and a half before operations on the interurban came to a halt.

These rails may be the last to remain of the West Shore's Chenango Branch. Originally The Syracuse & Chenango Valley Railroad, it was later acquired by the New York Central Railroad. It ran from Syracuse to its southernmost terminus at Earlville, NY, where it interchanged with the O & W RR. The line was abandoned in pieacemeal between the late 1930's and early 1980's. Photo taken at Fisher Road, East Syracuse, NY. The West shores mainline also crossed Fisher Rd. just north of here, but I was usucessful at finding the ROW from the road . I was only able to find a few overgrown sections along rt. 290.

The station at Manlius was originally located on the Syracuse & Chenago Valley RR, which later became known as The Chenango Branch of the West Shore.

Yet another park that I had not seen since I was a very young child. I was rather impressed for a county park. The park had a few trails, one of which looked like it circled down and around the waterfall. Looks like another hike to put on my list for next spring.

CSX westbound multi-level Q281 at the east end of DeWitt Yard in Minoa in 2009. CSX SD60 8715 and GP38-2 2616 were on the head end.

First time back here since I was a young child. I was rather impressed at the size and beauty of the park. On their website, the Clark Reservation State Park has the lake listed as a glacial plunge basin lake where the bottom and surface waters do not mix. Very similar too, and I would not be surprised if it were the same type of lake as that of Green and Round Lakes, at Green Lakes State Park.

CSX Q119, a westbound Trailer On Flatcar intermodal train, was at the east end of Dewitt Yard sin Minoa NY in 2009 with CSX ES44DC nos 5302 and 5212 on the head end.

Another shot of the lake through the trees on the trail at Clark Reservation State Park.

I asked a couple of park workers who were painting above out of view how many pavilions were located at the park. There are two. This is the smaller one. A larger pavilion is location opposite side of the parking lot.

One of the many cliffs along the trail overlooking the lake at Clark Reservation.

I din't venture too far along the trails, as one circles the entire lake. Perhaps a nice little trek for the spring time.

At the east end of Dewitt Yard in 2009 CSX eastbound manifest freight train Q366 was departing on track 8 with ES44AC nos 940 and 948, SD40-2 8838 and AC4400CW 494 on the head end. The detector reported 568 axles. Taken along Saintsville Road in Minoa.

It's been awhile since I have stopped at the Pond to visit the ducks and swans. I was passing that way on Sunday on the way to my moms house so I stopped and got a few pictures.

View this large to see the fish. I believe this big one is a rainbow trout amd the other one in the corner looks likew a bass.
