Singaporean artist Manjeet Shergill returns to the Asian art scene in 2009 via her 1st Solo Exhibit at the Art Space of the Royal Plaza on Scotts in Singapore.
The exhibit entitled "Eyetouch: Recent works of Manjeet Shergill" will be presented from February 12 to March 9, 2009.
Manjeet Shergill describes Eyetouch as "light and colour, shape and shade. Eyetouch is decoration and disguise, faith and fantasy. It is darkness too, and tears - everything except blindness."
One art writer describes Manjeet's works as "bold, bright canvases with their blocks of colour are simplistic at one level, but on another they suggest something of greater subtlety. The colourfields are made up of delicate strokes that create a feel of texture, and creates a background of depth."
Eyetouch is organized by Art Sentral Asia in cooperation with Shergill Studio and Royal Plaza on Scotts. For more information log-on to www.ArtSentralAsia.com, or email artsentralasia@yahoo.com
Power of the Divine Name
Day 3 of the Just Love Festival brought together artists from across the globe who offered their hearts through music during the Giridhari Abhishek. The soulful vibrations of Bal Krishna from Chile, and Sandu and Manjeet from Dubai, filled the air.
Paramahamsa Vishwananda (Guruji) concluded the Abhishek with a moving Shabad, and spoke about the transformative power of chanting. He reminded us that when the mind is absorbed in the Divine Names, negativity naturally fades away. The key, he said, is effort—sincere effort to connect, to chant, and to surrender.
The stage came alive with performances by the children of Bhakti Marga, Nada Lilas, Elunatha, The Future Saints of Vitthala, and Prema Vahini—each group bringing their own unique devotional expression.
The day concluded with Guru Arati, followed by a joyful and meditative silent disco led by DJ Sujatha, wrapping up the night in blissful harmony.

STOP This SHAME! STOP Racial Profiling Hate Mongering Violen.ce Against People From North· .
East! Arrest and Punish the Murderers of Nido Tania NOW! 'Kya yeh hai dilwalon ki Dilli? Stop Killing Us .. " screamed a poster today at the massive protest at Lajpat Nagar against Nido Tania's k:illing. Just a couple of weeks back, when the Law Minister of Delhi led a raid into Khirki Village, targetihg all 'Nigerian and Ugandan' people of being 'drug peddlers and sex traffickers', we pointed that the inherent and chilling racist sentiment underlying this incident. We pointed out, that routinely, communities that are seen as the 'other'-people from the North East, Muslims, transgenders and gays for instance-have been subjected to such vicious, xenophobic and racist prejudices and violence. And now, justtwo weeks after the state-sponsored lynch-mob raid in Khirki and its defence by the Delhi government, we havethe utterly tragic death of a young 18-yearold student from Arunachal Pradesh. Two days back, Nido Tania was subject to racist taunts on his looks and the colour ofthe hair. He was beaten up by a mob, not just once, but twice. Even after his death, ittook sustained protests to get an FIR filed by the Delhi Police. The brutal murder of Nido Tania by a lynch mob signifies the brutal reality and ugly face of racism in Delhi. A racist and xenophobic face which is chillingly alive and kicking, despite all efforts to project a 'modernJ, 'liberal' and 'cosmopolitan' veneer. .
This tragic death might have once more exposed the terrible consequences·of racism, but the fact remains that racism is often only recognised when such incidents take place. It is not ;ecognised, and not hi.ghlighted, when derogatory comments are made on physical features, dress, culture and cuisine; when breathtaking generalisations questioning life style and 'morality' pass off as 'aam' common sense. It is certainly not recognised when people from the North East and other marginalised 'others' find it specially difficult to rent rooms, to file complaints, to travel in public transport. It is this brand of seemingly innocuous everyday 'othering', profiling and racism that ultimately leads to the tragic mob lynching of a young boy doing something as normal as walking and shopping in a South Delhi market. .
At this grave moment, let us remember in shame, that we have a long long way to go in fighting racist profiling and violence. JNUSU expresses its deep condolences to the family and friends of Nido Tania, and reiterates its commitment to fight against every kjnd of discrimination faced by people from the north-ee~st. It is time for all prog·ressive and democratic sections of JNU to come together to protest such racist assaults, everyday discrimination and pathetic, prejudiced response of the state machinery. .
We appeal to the student community to participate in large numbers in the protest demonstration today from .

The whole day today, the students of Narmada hostel have b-een on the streets to protest again~t the shoddy mess facilities in Narmada: no food for some days, constant chopping, changing and shortage of mess staff and gross mismanagement of the mess. Yestreday, Jhelum hostel res.idents held a GBM and highlighted the gross high-handedness of their warden and his habit of arrogant refusal to address even the bare minimum concerns of the hostei. The issues -highlighted by the students in these spirited protests only expose the deep problems wfileh have come to characterise the present DoS regime, The present DoS regime is singularly marked by gross insensitivity and inaction towards all genwine student problems but an unusual rcreativity' and hyperactivity to harass and inconvenience the students. tim .
