May 8, 2023: Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Built between 1904-1907, The Manitou Cliff Dwellings is a privately owned tourist attraction with a recreated Anasazi cliff dwelling, museum, and gift shop. Visitors can walk and climb through the recreated cliff dwellings. The cliff dwellings are based on actual examples found in Mesa Verde National Park and similar preserved sites.

The Anasazi, also known as the Ancestral Puebloans, lived in the Four Corners area of the American Southwest from about 1200 BC to AD 1300.

You can never go wrong with the Greek Isle cheese fondue at The Mona Lisa Fondue Restaurant. A blend of gruyere swiss with blue cheese in a white wine base, topped with feta cheese, pine nuts and Kalamata olives with a great Malbec pairing

mud bricks and ancient timbers, preserved and open to the public since 1907. This is part of the main housing structure.

The cliff dwellings were moved to this alcove location in Manitou Springs from McElmo Canyon in 1907. (There is continued dispute about how accurate the reconstruction is, but if one is not going to Mesa Verde, this is a good alternative.) The dwellings are very interesting to visit and they do give one an idea of how the Pueblo peoples lived in the 12th century. They are fairly well interpreted.

May 8, 2023: Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Manitou Springs, Colorado. Here's a second batch of images from the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. These photos are of the three-story Pueblo-style building that contains museums and a gift shop.

Seen from the trail along the west side of the river. Photographed along the Manitou River, located between Sept-Iles and Sheldrake, in eastern Quebec.

People swear by the healthful effects of the natural spring water. (It tasted pretty yucky!)

Various sights, as we made our way NW on W Colorado Ave, which becomes Manitou Ave, on the way to our destiny with the train which would take us up Pikes Peak.

Taken from the Cave of Winds parking lot. I'm rather certain that's Manitou Springs down there. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
