"Haunted" ruins in Gitchie Manitou Nature Preserve in Lyon County, Iowa. Just west of Sioux Falls the little known nature preserve houses some significant Sioux history, being the site of tribal encampents, and late in the 19th century became one of the first quartzite quarries in the region.

Miramont Castle was built in 1896 by Jean Baptiste Francolon, a Catholic Priest. In 1904 the Sisters of Mercy turned the castle into a sanitarium. It was later converted into apartments, and is currently a museum operated by the Manitou Springs Historical Society.

This area of western Saskatchewan known as the Manitou Sand Hills is rough and uncultivated. The land is sandy, with dunes dotted throughout, and with numerous small saline lakes.

The Manitou I believe is used as a ferry to and from Block Island. It is seen here at Point Judith, Rhode Island.
