📍 Porthkidney 🌊⛅️🌊
You've heard of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) Photography. But what about UCM? You guessed it, this shot was a complete accident!
While shooting for my previously posted "SENTINELS" long exposure at Porthkindney Beach, near Hayle, my tripod slowly sank into the wet sand.
When the image flashed up on my LCD screen, I actually quite liked the ghostly shapes of the estuary markers standing out of the water.
**Contact me for prints**
👉 As this was a complete accident, I'm happy to donate any profit from prints (handled by contacting me directly) to the Man Down - men’s mental health charity. There's never been a better reason to buy one of my prints! (12x8" prints are £20 + £2p&p)

Dedicated to Maj Stephen 'Cajun' Del Bagno and the men and women who make up the family that are 'The Thunderbirds USAF Demonstration Team' and Nellis AFB their spiritual home on their sad loss.
Taken recently at Nellis AFB departing for a team training session over the ranges.
Or it might have been a woman I guess.
When I was on my way home there was a long queue of traffic on Beech Street coming up to Kensington.
This in itself isn't unusual - the phasing on the lights is notorious. It was moving very, very slowly though, and as I got further up the road I could see there was clearly some kind of incident.
Presumably the casualty was a pedestrian who had been struck by a car, but you never know. I suppose somebody could have a stroke or heart attack crossing the road as well as they could anywhere else.
Here you can see the fine people of the North West Ambulance Service doing their work. The Skoda is the rapid response car that will have been first on scene, with the patient transporting ambulance arriving shortly after. Behind the ambulance there was an unmarked black BMW protecting the scene from traffic. The fire engine was completely incidental, and I think was attempting to return to the fire station that was just to my right. Wisely, they elected to keep moving on and go round the block.
I didn't rubber neck so I've no idea what the detail of the scene was, but I hope everyone made it out alive.
Well, that was a fun weekend at UPfest! Despite an inauspicious start involving a lack of accommodation and a tendon severing washing up accident which effectively left the team a man down we still somehow managed to get the job done. Giving ourselves a complicated 3 in 1 mural was probably not the best idea but ‘best idea’ sometimes isn’t our forte.
Given we were short handed we thought it best to take our time and use both days to complete ‘Lovestruck’. Day 1 was mural 1. Three repeated heads with a white, greyscale and skin tone colour scheme and a colourful freestyle background. Day 2 started with the laborious task of applying tape to half the mural then repainting it entirely with red, yellow and blue hued faces and a new background. Mural 2 complete. Then comes the fun part and it’s time for the dramatic tape removal ceremony and for frankenmural 3 to be revealed. Hugo’s graceful rendition of this time honoured performance even garnered a spontaneous round of applause from the crowd of onlookers. I’d like to know if any other artists got a round of applause this weekend? Do we win UPfest?
Many thanks to Lindsay and her family for putting us up for the night and even cooking us a bacon sandwich in the morning. It was very much appreciated. As was the excitable Corgi puppy.

Had to pause and reset my world, as things had got a bit 'crowded' in my head!

My boys trying to skate yesterday in Liverpool One ice festival skating ring, a bit of fun, wish I had got out there myself, but the little one wasnt keen, so it was left to these to to show us how it was done... or not.
Kind of funny to see.

We had a bit of a blizzard, more in the sense of really high winds than in overall snow accumulation. But I did get a day off of work from it, so no complaints here. Some photos from my lunch break, before the storm started in earnest.
Sony Nex 6, Rokkor 45mm f2.
This is four photos, one of each band member, taken individually and then meshed together in photoshop cs5. Each photo was lit with the light bulb (a 25 watt clear bulb) that they were holding as well as a Nikon sb800 that was gelled to match the lightbulb's color temperature. The light bulb is powered by a socket removed from a ceiling fan that I wired to an on/off dimmer switch, the cable runs through their shirt sleeves and out the bottom of their shirts. Left to right, the positions of the sb800 was, to the left (on a stand), straight on (hand held), to the right (on a stand), and to the right (on a stand). It was set to lowest power each time and was about 4 feet away.

Great comedy here. The guy standing here was poking his drunken friend in the nards with his umbrella trying to get him to get vertical. Wasn't happening. Drunkard kept kicking his feet up to get his friend to leave him alone. Maybe he should've just left him there ;)

Now closed down, this building at 65th & Blackstone in Woodlawn, once served the Archdiocese of Chicago, but during the 1980's and 90's, this is where we brought the drunks we picked up off the street. Not the guys who'd had a few too many brewskies, no, we're talking "down for the count."
If you've been reading my stories, you know where I stand with all that "man down" crap, but - in this case - that's how they'd assign us the job:
"371, handle a man down at 61st & Vernon."
"10-4 Squad."
So you go and make sure it's bonafide, and you make sure he is breathing and hasn't been shot. Most of the time, you'll find him clutching an empty bottle of "Mogen & David" wine to confirm your initial diagnosis.
If everything checks out, you try to wake him up to see if you can get him to continue his journey now that he's taken a little nap. You can use smelling salts to revive him, or use your night-stick and use the end of the handle to rub his chest-bone. They usually preferred the night-stick method over the smelling salts. If you can get him going, fine, but if he goes back down, he'lll get a battlefield promotion to "sidewalk inspector" and you'll be taking him for a ride.
Getting him in the wagon, you might as well let him lie down on the floor, otherwise he'll bounce around and he'll be a bloody mess by the time you get to the drunk tank. At that point, you just have to get him past the intake worker.
It still doesn't make much sense to me, but if they are "too drunk" they'd make you haul 'em over to the hospital first. It won't take you long to learn that will only lead to a tug-of-war between the triage nurse and the intake worker, and you'll just be hauling bozo back and forth...
So, we'd take him over to Billings Hospital at the University of Chicago medical center. We'd put bozo in a wheelchair, make sure the triage nurse is not at her station - which she usually isn't anyway - park our package at her desk, and make our get-away.
That was our own system to make sure the U of C meets some of its obligations to the community. They're sitting on billions of dollars but refuse to maintain a Level 1 Trauma Center because it might attract a bunch of poor people with no medical insurance.
So this is our way of saying Fuck You for all the cops and all the kids on the South Side who are going to bleed to death because they have to bounce around in the back of an ambulance for an extra ten miles...
I volunteer at the Morro Bay Salvation Army. One never knows what the day will bring. Exiting the rear door with a load of trash, it was hard not to notice an inert man by the dumpster. Nearby beer cans indicated he may have passed out. Called 911. The police, fire dept and paramedics arrived in about 4 minutes. The gentleman was drunk and disoriented but uninjured.

Lyrics:
I didn't mean to end his life
I know it wasn't right
I can't even sleep at night
Can't get it off my mind
I need to get out of sight
Before I end up behind bars
What started out as a simple altercation
Turned into a real sticky situation
Me just thinking on the time that I'm facing
Makes me wanna cry
'Cause I didn't mean to hurt him
Could've been somebody's son
And I took his heart when
I pulled out that gun
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Man down
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Man down
Oh, mama, mama, mama
I just shot a man down
In central station
In front of a big old crowd
Oh why, oh why
Oh, mama, mama, mama
I just shot a man down
In central station
It's a 22, I call her Peggy Sue
When she fits right down in my shoes
What do you expect me to do
If you're playing me for a fool
I will lose my cool
And reach for my fire arm
I didn't mean to lay him down
But it's too late to turn back now
Don't know what I was thinking
Now he's no longer living
So I'm 'bout to leave town
'Cause I didn't mean to hurt him
Could've been somebody's son
And I took his heart when
I pulled out that gun
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Man down
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Man down
Oh, mama, mama, mama
I just shot a man down
In central station
In front of a big old crowd
Oh why, oh why
Oh, mama, mama, mama
I just shot a man down
In central station
Look, I never thought I'd do it
Never thought I'd do it
Never thought I'd do it, oh gosh
What ever happened to me
Ever happened to me, ever happened to me
Why did I pull the trigger
Pull the trigger, pull the trigger, boom
And end a nigga, end a niggas life so soon
When me pull the trigger, pull the trigger, pull it 'pon you
Somebody tell me what I'm gonna, what I'm gonna do
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Me say wah man down (A weh me say)
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
Rum pa pa pum
When me went downtown
'Cause now I am a criminal, criminal, criminal
Oh lord have mercy now I am a criminal
Man down
Tell the judge please give me minimal
Run out of town,
None of them can see me now, see me now
Oh, mama, mama, mama
I just shot a man down
In central station
In front of a big old crowd
Oh why, oh why
Oh, mama, mama, mama
I just shot a man down
In central station
