Despite, or maybe because of, the mis-mash of architectural styles I like this shot of Manchester, it gives a good indication of the scale of the city centre as well as the way older Victorian buildings rub shoulders with new high rise contemporary buildings.

Always appreciate architecture that has the potential to stop you in your tracks and the Imperial War Museum North at Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, definitely falls into that category.
Designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, it has been recognised with awards for its architecture and is recognised as an example of 'deconstructivist' architecture.
Back in the 1990s, the Imperial War Museum was actively looking at numerous sites across the north of England to open a new branch.
One of the locations being considered at the time was Hartlepool and they even got as far as designs for the new museum building by architect Sir Norman Foster.
In the end however, it was a case of what might have been as plans were eventually abandoned.
Busy cityscape taking in some significant Manchester architecture. View from the tram stop. Again neutral palette, orange highlights...it's all about the drawing!
This is a relatively old photo form 2019, when I was in the UK. This one was taken in Manchester on a quite rainy day.
Unaltered image, almost perfect reflection. Had great fun snapping people as they came up the pathway.
The modernist Barnes Wallis Building designed by architecture practice Cruikshank & Seward. Part of the modernist UMIST campus in Manchester.
Manchester, Salford and Media City 130523 #3
Media City UK is an area around Salford Quays and, as the name suggests, is home to companies such as the BBC and ITV offices and studios. I had much better luck here and I’m posting my photos of my tour both today and tomorrow. How wonderful that the area has its routes named as colours. For my first group, I did a shortish circular walk along Blue, then Green across Media City Footbridge across the Manchester Ship Canal, towards, and past, Imperial War Museum North to the Quay West building, where I took a photo of its impressive, imposing, block reflective frontage – shooting through a gap in the gates.
