Happy Macro Monday
The MM theme for 2/24 is figurine and this one is very useful as it is actually a tea-infuser. Someone had a unique sense of humor or irony. Ya gotta love his grin.

So the little black matt hold cups, and in those cups they grow this grass with the roots that go deep into the water. The roots on the matts in the middle of the pond take all the fertilizers out of the water so when the pond water goes back into the intercoastal water way it is nice and clean. I thought it was a bunch of bull. But we are seeing more manatee. So I am all for it. .... Oh yeah, the roots also act as great food for the fish, and where there is fish you will often find the blue heron.
We stopped off at the Springs to view the Manatee in their natural habitat. Only a few remained in the warm waters, now that it is spring they will begin to move on to other areas.
For Manatee Awareness Month - thought I'd better post this before November was over! Taken this spring while south for a wedding. I was walking along a canal and someone passing by told me there were manatee under the footbridge ahead. Most of them were pretty far out, but then there was splashing just about at my feet and I caught these two just as their noses came up.
Look at those tiny "nails" on its fin! Apparently manatees are close relatives to elephants, believe it or not..
Not quite the season for the manatee, but while leaving the park I had an encounter with a four-foot Eastern Diamondback that coiled up to try to strike me through the window of my car. My picture of this incident was of the snake in retreat back into the woods so I give you this bucolic peek into Florida's rivers, springs, and woods, ever mindful that danger can lurk amidst the greatest beauty.
So sad what is happening to these amazing creatures and yet again we humans are the cause:))

Another shot of a curious manatee coming to the boat. I was able to get these shots with my dad's waterproof point and shoot. The water clarity on the Homosassa wasn't as good as it can be, but I was able to some decent images with a little work in post.
There's nothing like experiencing these big gentle marine mammals. They are very engaging.
