Maman is a sculpture by visual artist Louise Bourgeois. Dedicated to the artist's mother, it takes the form of a gigantic steel spider almost 9 meters high, under the belly of which hangs a bag of 10 marble eggs; his abdomen and thorax are in fluted bronze.

The famous spider sculpture of Louise Bourgois can be found all over the world. This huge specimen is situated on the river walk, next to the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain.

Another photo and frame different, of one of the symbols of the city of Bilbao. It's a work, by Louise Bourgeois and it's cast out of marble, bronze and steel. The sculpture, is a warm tribute to the mother of the artist, because the word Maman, translates as mom, on the other hand the eggs symbolize fertility. There are other cities besides Bilbao, which have this sculpture, are Tokyo, London, Ottawa, Bentonville and Doha.

Maman and her brood soon decided that I was not much of a threat: she lowered her guard and the ducklings went back to sleep.

Maman (1999) is a bronze, stainless steel, and marble sculpture in several locations by the artist Louise Bourgeois. The sculpture, which depicts a spider, is among the world's largest, measuring over 30 ft high and over 33 ft wide (927 x 891 x 1024 cm). It includes a sac containing 32 marble eggs and its abdomen and thorax are made of rubbed bronze.

The giant spider is made from bronze, marble and stainless steel.

It looks at the protective nature of mothers as the spider tries to protect the sac of eggs attached to her stomach.

The bronze sculpture Maman, a work by the French artist Louise Bourgeois, is one of the most emblematic pieces at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. It stands over 9 meters tall and depicts a long-legged spider holding a sac of marble eggs under its abdomen. The piece was created in 1999 as part of a series of works dedicated to the artist's mother.

Bourgeois saw her mother, a tapestry restorer, as a weaver and protector, much like a spider. The sculpture, therefore, symbolizes the strength, intelligence, and protective instinct of motherhood. Despite its imposing size and the fear many people have of spiders, the work conveys a sense of refuge and security. Maman is a monumental piece that challenges the viewer's perceptions and pays an emotional tribute to the maternal figure.

Almost 9 meters tall, Maman is one of the most ambitious of a series of sculptures by Bourgeois that

take as their subject the spider, a motif that first appeared in several of the artist's drawings in the 1940s and came to assume a central place in her work during the 1990s. Intended as a tribute to her mother, who was a weaver, Bourgeois's spiders are highly contradictory as emblems of maternity:

they suggest both protector and predator—the silk of a spider is used both to construct cocoons and to bind prey—and embody both strength and fragility. Such ambiguities are powerfully figured in the mammoth Maman, which hovers ominously on legs like Gothic arches that act at once as a cage as a protective lair to a sac full of eggs perilously attached to her undercarriage.

The spider provokes awe and fear, yet her massive height, improbably balanced on slender legs, conveys an almost poignant vulnerability.
