My friend Mama. She passed away two summers ago but I think of her so often.
A huge thank you to all who stopped by to look or comment.
Mama often gets the leftovers. The littles all turned their itty bitty butts to the camera. I think they don’t like to be watched while they eat.
Leaf Curling Spider (Phonognatha graeffei)
It looks like Mama has eggs. She was in the top part of the leaf with the lower part 'sealed'.
Both chicks are on Mom's back, although #2 is nearly fully out of view as #1 perches proudly for a ride on the evening water.
After releasing the mouse and running back in the house to get my camera, this is the shot I faced! all in all a good morning!
Das kleine Stockenten (Anas platyrhynchos) Küken und im Hintergrund schwimmt ihm seine Mama entgegen.
This mama blue jay and her mate have chosen one of the pine trees in my backyard as a nesting spot. It's a pretty impressive nest. I've been leaving seeds out there for them to eat, and I hope the whole thing works out well and I get to see some chicks appear in coming days. For someone who works from home, this is more than a little exciting for me I must admit.
Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) female
I had to pop up to the school today to submit the kids completed work, so I carried the camera to get some shots of the Tawnies. Mama was on a branch over the footpath today so I was able to get a better look at her.
Glide path return to the nest in the golden sunset light - mom eagle sets up for the landing.
Mooseheart IL has a Bald Eagle family that shows up every year. Hoping for more babies this year!
Pretty high res, with nice feather detail, so zoom on in!
MaMa deer was giving her babe a bath and a hug when we pulled up to the Visitor Center to get our trail map and have a snack under the shade tree. MaMa deer hung around the whole time while we were sitting on the picnic bench. She was really enjoying that shady place!

"You talking to me?! I know you're not talking to me?!".
A beautiful mama Osprey giving me that protective glare that mama's of all species seem to have perfected.
A mama grizzly bear with cub glaring at me from out of the bushes during a pretty heavy downpour of rain. She had another cub nearby as well. Taken in Kananaskis Country Alberta, ironically at Grizzly Creek.
For those of you who know the film, this is the church featured in Mama Mia! for the wedding scene at the end. It is actually the church of Agios Ioannis Kastri and is beautifully perched on top of a huge natural outcrop of rock in the Mediterranean Sea.
Southern Lapwing - Female - taking care of her chicks. The Southern Lapwing is a conspicuous inhabitant of grasslands and pastures from Panama and northern South America south to Tierra del Fuego. A large, crested lapwing, the Southern Lapwing has gray brown upperparts with a bronze sheen, a black breast band that extends up to the bird’s forehead, wing spurs, and a white belly and undertail coverts. Southern Lapwings feed mainly on insects, as well as small fish and aquatic invertebrates. Southern Lapwings are largely sedentary, but populations in the extreme south of their range migrate to warmer areas in the winter. These large plovers are well adapted to human disturbance and are increasing their range in response to deforestation and cultivation.
Common but adorable! She is protecting 2 chicks...
Have a peaceful Thursday!
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!
