When you hit the backspace key 28 times then the Grub2 bootloader’s authentication details can be bypassed. By doing this hackers will be allowed to install malware on the locked-down Linux machines.

For initializing the OS when the system boots-up the GRUB (Grand Unified Bootloader) is used. It is provided with a password feature which can be able to control access to boot entries. In most of the large firms it is mandatory to have this protection. Through this, it is easy to disable CD-ROM, USB and network boot options. In order to secure systems from unauthorized users, you should have to set a password for the BIOS/UEFI firmware by using GRUB.

If the boot options are not [resent for securing the systems, then various hackers or malicious users might easily boot from an alternative OS such as storing Linux installation on a USB drive or CD/DVD and can access the personal information present on the hard drive.

Two researches from the Cybersecurity Group named Hector Marco and Ismael Ripoll at Universitat Politècnica de València has found a bug in the Grub2 which can easily trigger the locked-down Linux system by simply hitting the backspace key 28 times. Based on various conditions, due to this action this can cause the system to reboot or keep the Grub in rescue mode, allowing hackers to access a powerful shell. A hacker can be able to rewrite the Grub2 code which is loaded in RAM with the help of shell’s commands. Due to this hackers can bypass th authentication check.

In case of such attacks, information on the disk will be destroyed.

“When any user executes Firefox, a reverse shell will be invoked,” the researchers said in a detailed write-up of their exploit, which they presented last week at the STIC CCN-CERT Conference in Madrid. “At this time all data of the user is deciphered, allowing us to steal any kind of information of the user.”

The duo claimed that “Grub2 is the bootloader used by most Linux systems including some embedded systems. This results in an incalculable number of affected devices.”

It is a great news that researchers has also cooked up a fix.

Two weeks before Christmas I received an email claiming that if I clicked the link contained within I'd get a free mince pie.

People laughed but I clicked the link anyway.

Today the pie arrived and very tasty it was too.

Sorry for not uploading, but i am without capture software at the moment and CamStudio has been flashing alarms left right and centre due to the fact it is Malware.

I shall provide links to the moments where my clips start.

Clip 1:

The Matrix - Chateau Fight

youtu.be/4puUo4OYViE?t=29s

Firstly, this would be very difficult due to the multiple characters the scene requires.

This could be negated by using placeholder prims, but i am unsure on the impact of this on the final mark. or it could be done using clones of the same character model.

Ultimately, this is a scene about clean and calculated movement, with every cut matched to keep the flow of movement identical.

Jackie Chan - Whoami

Clip 2:

youtu.be/AJ5oaBWYzPk?t=4m41s

Specifically at 4:41-49, where Jackie Chan is involved in a series of dodges against a person’s kicks. He spins around a low pole several times in order to avoid the blows. This is a useful clip to reference as it allows a single character to use a lot of small moves that still show off plenty of movement.

Problems may arise in objectifying the leg which the character is supposed to be dodging.

Clip 3:

youtu.be/AJ5oaBWYzPk?t=6m26s (same video)

at 6:26-34, A long shot where Chan uses more freerunning style movement to escape. The continuous shot makes it very good to see references. A lot of these movements are near identical, which can lead to loops being created.

Also useful is the fact it is a multi-level environment, although sometimes this can be more trouble than it is worth.

A Journey through iOS Malware Landscape: Evolution & Characterization

According to Symantec’s latest Internet Security Threat Report, “17 percent of all Android apps (nearly one million total) were actually malware in disguise.” In 2013, Symantec uncovered roughly 700,000 virus-laden apps.

More than one third of all apps were what Symatec calls ̶...
