After recovering from the flu my laptop was taken over by gremlins, and they managed to stop me from working on it, so after consuling my doctor it was discovered it had developed a serious virus, The doctor prescribed malware tablets, which didn't work, I thought it had alzheimer's because it didn't

understand anything I said.

After a full blood transfusion and bed rest, my poor

little laptop has started to respond to my commands

again, so bear with me it's still not a 100% yet

Surprisingly spring is still here...;) It doesn't always last that long in my part of Texas.

Speaking about Texas weather, it was looking like it might rain at the Sandcastle festival this coming weekend, but now it looks like it's going to be sunny. So, lots of lotion.

I pulled out my old laptop to update everything for the trip and my malware scanner told me it found 5 questionable items. Of course I said delete them. When the system tried to do a restart, it couldn't. I had to do a factory reboot..What I thought might take a half hour has now turned into a much longer project. I'm just happy I'm doing all this at home and on my WiFi

I'm going to be a gate keeper the first day, the second day I'm a photographer and the third day I'm working the grille..lol..They have never tasted my food..:)

To all my Flickr friends: Wishing you a Happy Easter filled with Kindness, Good health and Peace.

Taken with a cheap $100 action camera while out exploring. The underwater dive housing degraded the image a tiny bit, but overall I'm happy with the results. It's fun using a camera that is effectively disposable compared to my main Sony a6300 camera kit. It also fits in spaces where larger cameras can't.

Also, if anyone is interested in some lighthearted comedy, I built a website where I am hosting my new book for anyone to read for free. No ads or malware, just free for the sake of being nice. The book is about sponge monsters that grow in size as they absorb liquids. It's like the goofy chaos of Gremlins crossed with the absurdity of the Stay Puft marshmallow man.

I sure got lucky with my brightest meteor caught this year going right through the North Star/Polaris (at the middle of all the circles). There are at least 4 clear Perseids in this image, but I saw many more when the shots where being taken.

Notes: 232 30 second exposures were stacked with 1 dark frame. I did clone out one annoying plane traversing the scene (painful).

Update: For stacking, those of you commenting that your computer wouldn't handle having that many images open, not to worry. For this I used the free Startrails Application that will open them one at a time and blend and then move on to the next. You can also point it to any dark frames you took to assist with noise reduction. Or, if you prefer to fully work in PS you can use the free star trails action (some folks report this second link makes their anti-virus software act up, but I know of no issues with any malware for this site and have used the action many times with no problems).

The Lemon Duck cryptocurrency-mining botnet has added the ProxyLogon group of exploits to its bag of tricks, targeting Microsoft Exchange servers.

Lemon Duck targets victims’ computer resources to mine the Monero virtual currency, with self-propagating capabilities and a modular framework that allows it to infect additional systems that become part of the botnet. It has been active since at least the end of December 2018, and Cisco Talos calls it “one of the more complex” mining botnets, with several interesting tricks up its sleeve.

Sometimes we need to create a different place to re-set our feelings and emotions.... especially when we feel out of sorts, tired, fearful, angry, depressed, or worried.

This suggestion came from an unexpected new friend, to whom I now dedicate this image... the knowledge and wisdom shining from his Soul through his words, reminding me that I have the power to change things if only for a few minutes and then return refreshed and stronger to continue on.

Yes, you might be right, this abstract place is different for me, but I realized that the colors and movement were making my heart smile with joy.... that's why I called it my Happy Place.

This morning, 3 October 2018, I woke up to blue sky and glorious sunshine - and a temperature of -6C and many inches of snow! Calgary was hit with a huge snowfall yesterday, which continued overnight. It caused chaos in the city and endless accidents. Fortunately, I only had to drive close to home - for an appointment to get my snow tires put on, ha.

"Wednesday, October 3, 2018, 8:30 AM -The snow is gradually easing across Alberta, but Tuesday's significant and record breaking WALLOP has certainly left its mark on the region. Calgary ground to a halt after nearly 40 cm of snow hammered the city, prompting appeals to neighbouring cities -- and as far away as Edmonton -- for additional snow removal equipment. This unusually cold pattern however, is set to last through the first half of October, meaning these massive mounds of snow aren't likely to go anywhere .... Police say there were over 250 collisions reported in the city of Calgary alone between 11 pm on Monday and 3:30 pm on Tuesday. " From the Weather Network.

This photo is from 25 September 2018, when the weather forecast finally looked a little more promising. We have had so many gloomy, rainy days and when I woke up that morning and saw that the sun was shining, I knew I had better get out to the mountains before the fall colours disappeared. It was almost 11:00 am before I left home, so I was limited time-wise, but still managed to get to my destination. I had taken my computer to be fixed the previous day, to clear a virus and malware after being hacked, so I had more time to get out with my camera.

I thought this might just be my last chance to see fall colours and, if I was lucky, a little Pika. Luck was on my side and I saw both. How lucky we are to live so close to such magnificent scenery!

I'm pretty close to finishing my first Grid Wars entry (just waiting on a Bricklink order). Have been feeling around with a Tron W-Wing in the meantime; this one's interesting but it feels a little too Wipeout 2097. Worth posting anyway.

How to convert Star Wars nomenclature to Tron terminology? The Rebels are the new OS? Or maybe the Republic was the original OS and the Empire is malware or something (the Rebels are anti-virus). Does someone who actually knows about computers (not me) have any suggestions?

This is one of several photos taken in the open spaces of Hill County, Montana, not long after crossing back into the United States after visiting family in Saskatchewan. The clouds, the vast open spaces, the old railroad tracks vanishing into the distance, and the empty highway to the right of the tracks came together in a scene of beauty and loneliness.

I've been off Flickr for a few days again, as I stayed off the computer until I could get it checked out after a scare about possible viruses/malware. It's been checked and found to be clean, so I'll be trying to catch up.

Today, 1 October 2018, we are under a Special Weather Statement. A heavy snowfall is likely for parts of western Alberta this week. This morning, it is -2C (windchill -6C) with freezing drizzle in the morning with a few flurries this afternoon. I think the normal temperature for 1 October is around 15C, so we are well below average. Snow tonight, which means I am getting my snow tires put on (tomorrow) one day too late.

"The start of October will look more like the middle of winter across much of southern Alberta this week, as cold air and snow feature prominently in the forecast. After what have already been record-breaking amounts so far this year, more snowfall is on the way for parts of the Prairies, as Arctic air pours down from the north and Pacific moisture creeps over the Rockies. We're looking at the risk for some significant totals this week." From the Weather Network.

Iris is spunky hacker who loves using her custom multi-function prosthetic to cause chaos for the crime syndicates and corrupt law enforcement in the Layered City.

Iris prefers to use her hacking and programming skills to support Ode's team from the background. Iris has spent months implanting malware in the Layered City's computer system, and she uses the holo-computer built into her arm to exercise near absolute control over the city's many automated functions.

When she is forced to engage in combat, Iris has an emergency set of Phase-Tech claws and a Plasma beam emitter built into her arm.

Iris fills an invaluable role on Ode's team, and her upbeat attitude and general positivity keep her team's spirit high. While she appears to support Ode's goal of ridding the Layered City of corruption, it is unclear if she has an ulterior motive. She is incredibly secretive about her past and how she became such a proficient hacker without detection.

Build Notes:

This one was an adventure. The concept for "Hacker Girl" started with the mechanical arm with the computer built in. The colors and hair for her changed a bunch when I was working on her (RIP purple shoes). A lot of the decisions of the appearance of this character were made based on parts limitations (the crop top for example was because I ran out of black curved slopes half way through building the shirt). The end result is really flexible and can hold lots of dynamic poses. As always, face and some of the hair design by Eero Okkonen. I promise I'll quit ripping off his stuff eventually.

The snowy egret (Egretta thula) is a small white heron. It is the American counterpart to the very similar Old World little egret, which has established a foothold in the Bahamas. At one time, the beautiful plumes of the snowy egret were in great demand by market hunters as decorations for women's hats. This reduced the population of the species to dangerously low levels. Now protected in the United States by law, under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, this bird's population has rebounded.

Yesterday, I discovered Malware on my computer and called a company I use called Geeks on Site. They took control of my computer and cleaned it up and removed all malware, Adware, and Viruses. It took them over 6 hours to fix everything and they also managed to speed up my computer.

Yesterday and today ..I have began a new here..I just cut back to 22 groups from over almost 1700..wow it feels good ... no great ..it feels great ..while doing this small thing I came across over 60 .... yes 60 malware problems check your groups for malware people ..nasty little bugs ....those took hours to fix.........

HAPPY snowy CANADIAN THANKSGIVING!

After a couple of fairly sunny days, we are back to another snowfall this morning, 8 October 2018. Our first major snowstorm blew in at the beginning of October and now here comes the second one. I wonder if we will end up getting fall or if we are more or less going straight from summer to winter. Our temperature this morning is -2C (windchill -8C) - the norm is around 15C and we have been way below average for weeks now. Not to mention all the rain we have had.

This photo is from 25 September 2018, when the weather forecast finally looked a little more promising. We have had so many gloomy, rainy days and when I woke up that morning and saw that the sun was shining, I knew I had better get out to the mountains before the fall colours disappeared. I had taken my computer to be fixed the previous day, to clear a virus and malware after being hacked, so I had more time to get out with my camera.

I thought this might just be my last chance to see fall colours and, if I was lucky, a little Pika. Luck was on my side and I saw both. Getting photos of the little Pika required an awful lot of patience : ) A few days later, our first snowstorm arrived, bringing as much as 60 cm of snow to Kananaskis and about 38 cm to our city. How lucky we are to live so close to such magnificent scenery!

Just having been downloaded by piggybacking on an unverified program, this complex piece of malware must first find and copy uninfected files to mask itself from antivirus scans before it begins to wreak havoc.

A bit of techno-abstract I made quite a while ago and haven't uploaded until now.

The scenery is done very similarly to that of my latest spaceship. (Which I'm STILL getting mileage out of!)

Enjoy! :)

Allow me to play a bit with this particular sunset. I did take a ton of photos on this particular evening because of the way things played out with this sunset. I arrived at the park early and knew that there was some potential remaining in the large thunderstorm that was losing it’s punch off in the western sky. I had to wait, but I also saw a large number of lower clouds coming from behind me rapidly and I knew that they had the potential for blocking the sun and keeping the supercell for lighting up properly. It was quite an interesting evening and offered up a tremendous amount of color and the beauty would last long after the sun dipped below the horizon. I hope I’m not boring everyone.

I would do another video, but I lost my old Movie Maker program during the refresh on my computer and am not sure it there is another one available that works as well as the old. There are a lot of versions of the old version floating around on the web, but people had better be careful trying to download the old version. I had a malware and ransomware attack when I attempted to download it twice off the web. Great that my Zone Alarm was up to the task and quarantined both versions before anything malicious happened. It’s a jungle out there.

This is how I felt when my laptop succumbed to malware-itis - thanks, Karl Striker.

My computer got hit with malware yesterday. The hard drive needs to be scrubbed and all the programs reinstalled. (Hey, is there a way to do that with an aging human body, lol?) So I won't be able to use it for a few days. Thank God I had everything backed up. Was able to post this from another computer. Where there's a will there's a way. :-)

Sailed past my house about an hour ago - hope you like it as much as I did!

View LARGE on Black for a better look at the crew!

I think I got the problems fixed. Be warned - I got a message two days ago that a file was infected and although I ran every malware programme in the world none of them could heal the infection. It started with small error messages but by last night my whole screen was scarlet with error messages about several hundred files. This morning my platform was gone and I just had a black desk top with nothing on it except a message saying that windows had been altered and would no longer run! Fortunately Vista has a repair programme and it found out that this virus which had been rushing around chomping like Pacman had made lots of partitions on the hard disk among other things. I was able to sort that so I could start but then I found half my files were gone including my mailbox! Back to F11 once more to replace the system files and finally I stepped the computer back three days to before the problems started and I got everything back. No sign of problems since then but I am still a bit nervous about it. It might still be lurking for all I know! I am about to change AV programme as I thought this was very poor letting it run rampant through my computer like that. The only thing I lost was a game I have been playing for about a month where I was up to round 1200 - now back to 0 - LOL!! Hey ho - life goes on!

Now to catch up with the comments.....

in mellow light with bokeh, taken with Leica M10 Summilux 50mm

A lot of people seemed to like this shot so I thought I'd post it! This photo, and the other three I posted this chilly evening, are just a taste of all the abstract work I have done!

I've been out of action; our computer got infected with malware and had to be cleaned. But I'm back and better than ever!

2016 was the year of colossal cyberhacks. It was revealed that cyberdata from corporations, consumer credit and debit cards used at certain large retail chains, a billion individual Internet accounts, government departments and private national election committee information were stolen by private and state actors.

In retailing, 2016 was largely a transition year in which consumer credit cards were upgraded from magnetic strips to the more secure EMV chips. It took cyberbreaches of millions of consumers among retail chains in the couple of years before to create the change to the new cards. Many retailers and merchants still do not have EMV readers.

Are we ready for the next technology revolution that is happening right now -- the Internet of Things in which everything is cyberlinked?

I promise I'll quit ripping off his stuff eventually.

busy year so far, unfortunately not busy shooting. I recently found out from a potential client my website seemed to have been infected with a malware. So I spent the last couple of weeks rebuilding. I can now finally get back in the swing of shooting....

check it out, there are a couple of images I haven't posted on here....hope everyone's year started of great...

I'VE BEEN SCAMMED!!! My son informed me that the whole computer VIRUS thing was a SCAM! My Bank said the first step is to phone the company and cancel the 5-year Protection I paid for and to ask for a refund, which I have just done. Doubt that will happen. Also have to now take my computer in to be cleaned of all the malware, etc. they have installed on my hard drive. What a PAIN! I'm always very careful of scams, but I sure fell for this one.

A very early start for me today, (despite the forecast for rain all day) as I need to get away from my computer after yesterday's stress, thanks to a Virus that shut down my computer. It took me three hours to deal with it, while a technician went through my whole computer remotely, deleting every virus that has accumulated. I was told that I phoned them just in time, as I was not far away from losing everything on my computer. I always have Norton installed on my computer, but apparently the last three months I have not had Network Security working on my computer. Can you believe I had 5,614 viruses and if I had reached 6,000, everything on my computer would have been lost? Yikes! Funny, as the last few days, I have been backing up my photos to external hard drives and a flash drive. A very costly morning, but now my computer is fine and I have a five-year Security. Before all this, I was on Facebook and had clicked on a video link from a friend's Facebook page. Suddenly, my whole screen was filled with the Virus alert, which gave me a phone number to call. I don't know if that link was the actual cause of all this problem, or if it was 'the last straw'. Thankful for the clear help from the technician! Much appreciated.

This particular young American Kestrel resides at the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre in Coaldale, southern Alberta. This is a wonderful place that rehabilitates and releases (whenever possible) various birds of prey - hawks, owls, Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures, and Golden Eagles. Some of these birds act as Wildlife Ambassadors, too, including educating the public away from the Centre. Sometimes, a bird is used as a foster parent, too. I didn't see a Turkey Vulture or a Golden Eagle this time. This Kestrel was inside the Gift Store/entrance building, so I wasn't sure if any of my photos would come out (as I didn't want to use flash).

My actual destination on 21 August 2018 was the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre. I know some people feel that photographing birds that are not out in the wild is cheating. I kind of agree, though I think it's fine as long as someone says where it was taken.

On the spur of the moment the previous night, I decided that I might just try and get up early the next morning and go for a drive. The smoke from the British Columbia wildfires hasn't been hanging around the last few days, so I knew I really should make the most of a clear day.

It turned out to be such a great day, with some much-appreciated sightings. I must have spent about 8 or 9 hours driving and almost every inch of my body ached like crazy. Now, each summer, I try and do two or three longer (for me) drives, making sure I don't lose confidence to get there. I left home at 9:00 am, just a bit later than I had hoped. Arrived back home somewhere around 8:30 pm.

Weather-wise, it was around 24C, so not too hot. Unfortunately, I discovered that it was still smokey from the British Columbia wildfires, making distant hills barely visible and deleting mountains from view, but it didn't have too much effect on closer photography.

It was a good day for Hawks, seeing three on the way south and a few on the way home. I almost missed two of the hawks, as the hay bale was way out in a large field. At first, I thought there were three hawks together, but when I stopped to take a few photos, I realized that there were only two - one looked almost like two hawks close together, but then I saw that it had its wings mantled. I guess it wanted to make sure that the second hawk behind it couldn't steal any of the food from it.

A lone Common Nighthawk also helped make my day. For several years, I had longed to see one of these unusual birds and, finally last year (2017), I managed to find four of them. That time was almost two months earlier than my recent find, so I wasn't expecting to see any in late August. I would still love to find one lying on a wooden railing rather than a metal railing. Last year, I got a photo of one on a fence post, but the angle was not the greatest. These birds are 9½ inches from the tip of bill to the tip of tail.

A Horned Lark, a Vesper Sparrow, a Mourning Dove, and a Western Meadowlark gave me the chance for a photo or two and, to my delight, a hawk I spotted way in the distance did turn out to be a Ferruginous Hawk. A happy sighting, as they tend to be few and far between.
