Malbork Castle was built in the 13th century by The Order of the Teutonic Knights of St. Mary's Hospital in Jerusalem. It is the biggest brick castle complex in Europe and according to some calculations ( no doubt disputed by others! ) - the biggest castle in the world by surface area ( 143,691 sq meters ) - www.touropia.com/largest-castles-in-the-world/

I wish I had a chance to take a photo of this magnificent structure at blue hour, with the night-time illuminations on, but in the summer months it becomes dark only at around 10pm, so it was just too much to ask of my travel companions to hang around as it took us over an hour to get there.

Die Marienburg ist eine mächtige Ordensburg mit langer Geschichte und auch der größte Backsteinbau Europas. Viele Millionen Mauerziegel wurden zwischen 1270 und 1393 in der 20 Hektar großen Burganlage im Auftrag des Deutschen Ritterordens verbaut.
Die Führung mit einem Audio Guide war sogar kostenlos

Malbork ist bekannt für seine Marienburg des Deutschen Ordens und so lässt sich auch die Eisenbahn mit den Ausläufern dieser Sehenswürdigkeit verewigen. Mit einer großen Brücke überspannt die Bahn die Nogat und fährt auf der Stadtseite direkt über ehemaliges Gebiet der Ritterburg mit seinen Wehrtürmen. Einer dieser Wehrtürme ist der hier zu sehende Buttermilchturm, der seinen Namen seinem Windfähnchen in Form einer Frau die Buttermilch schlägt zu verdanken hat.
EP07-1065 hat soeben mit leichter Verspätung den Bahnhof von Malbork verlassen und muss mit IC 58108 nach Stettin noch einige Kilometer zurücklegen.
