So it's the 'Alexander' catamaran on its way to McMahons Point Wharf, Balmain East Wharf and then across Darling Harbour to Barangaroo.
If you catch this ferry, you will be just in time for an amazing dinner at 'The Malaya' restaurant in Lime Street, right near King Street Wharf, at Barangaroo.

After dinner catch a night ferry back across the harbour, under the bridge, and on to Circular Quay. OR, get off at Luna Park (aka Milsons Point) and take the super fast, brand new, Metro driverless train back to the Hills District. Too easy, lol.

On Malaya Sadovaya Street, Manezhnaya Square and Italianskaya Street, a reconstruction of the blockade of Leningrad has been launched: the project “Street of Life”.

a day after the Far East tsunami I took a walk along a beach in Penang where scores of people had lost their lives. As it was only 24 hours afterwards (and we had not really seen much news coverage) the scale of the disaster had yet to sink in or the fact that actually because of the position of our hotel on that same beach, we had been very fortunate to avoid any harm. The beach itself showed little signs of the previous day's tragedy apart from these little dead fish which lay all over. Without really thinking or knowing I took a picture, probably because I thought I must try and record, at least symbolically, what had happened.
The Bridge of Remembrance which links Oxford and Cambridge Terraces over the Avon River at Cashel Street was opened on Armistice Day, 11 November 1924.
It was opened by the Governor-General, Admiral of the Fleet, Lord Jellicoe, who had previously laid the foundation stone on Anzac Day, 25 April 1923.
The Bridge and its Arch of Remembrance serve as a memorial to servicemen and women of two World Wars and subsequent conflicts in Korea, Malaya, Borneo, and Vietnam.

Borneo is well known for its sunsets. This is one of the many self explanatory shots here on Flickr. Taken over the Likas Bay, opposite of the beautiful City Mosque in Kota Kinabalu, of which I'll post some photos later. Have a nice day, particularly if you celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
Likas Bay, located some 5 minutes north east of the city centre, is a scenic bay with a distant view of the Crocker Range and Sepangar Bay in the distance, with the shoreline of Universiti Malaysia Sabah visible. Likas Bay is a stop for migratory birds as a large portion of it is mangrove swamps and in fact, the beautiful and long Tun Fuad Stephen Road along this bay was not following the actual shoreline of Likas Bay. The actual shoreline was right behind All Saints Secondary School. It might then take around 3 - 5 minutes by a car to get from one side of the bay to the other. There is a public park here, where locals like to throng during the weekends. All along the seaside, some are seen fishing. The bay is planted with majestic royal palms which line the main highway, and aplenty of coconut trees sway at the seaside. The western end is known as Tanjung Lipat, where one can have a clear view over the old ports and Signal Hill on the other. The most noticeable landmark along this bay is Wisma Perindustrian while there are The Peak & The Peak Vista on Signal Hill.
A week from now, the nation will be celebrating the 60years Merdeka Day (Independence day) on 31st August, but then the government decided not to celebrate this occasion in a grand way like what we did for the 50years MerdekaDay in 2007. Only an annual parade will be held at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. There is no special commemorative stamp,coin or even bank note will be issue for this occasion.

This was the only area of our backpacking trip where we saw real pine forest and had real wood for our campfire. The usual height of tundra forest (consisting mostly birch trees) is knee-high. The name means The Lesser White (River).
GPS coordinates are very approximate, I'll have to consult my hiking map.
