The Makkah Gate in Jeddah is one of the oldest gates remaining in the country. The origin of the gate can be traced to the history of Jeddah. The Makkah Gate is also known as the Bab Ashlam and the Sham Gate. It is the one of the main entrances for the Hajj pilgrims. Of the numerous sightseeing in Jeddah, the Makkah Gate is one of the most prominent. Jeddah sightseeings will never be completed without visiting the fabulous Makkah Gate.
During 100 AD Jeddah was fortified by limestone coral walls. 6 watchtowers and gates were constructed during the 16th century. They were constructed to defend the Portuguese attack. Of the 6 gates, Bab Makkah was the eastern gate and Bab Al Magharibah the western one. The gate Bab Sharif was South facing. The other gates Bab Al Bunt, Bab Sharaf and Bab Al Madinah were north facing. The Makkah Gate in Jeddah is one of the three reconstructed gates. The Makkah Gate in Jeddah is located in the Downtown of Jeddah. Numerous pilgrims frequently come to the city of Jeddah and also go from the city of Jeddah. The Makkah Gate at Jeddah provides the getaway to this wide gamut of pilgrims. The pilgrims and tourists are offered fine hospitality near the gate. The caravanserais are present there to make life easier for the visitors. The architectural brilliance of the gate is worth going through. The Turkish influence is largely evident in the construction of Makkah Gate at Jeddah. During evening the brightly lit Makkah Gate makes for an awesome sightseeing.
The city of Jeddah lies in close proximity to the sacred places of Makkah and Medina. Islam is the predominant religion. Jeddah witness marked increase in the number of tourists during the Hajj. The Makkah Gate in Jeddah provides the entrance to the pilgrims and also caters to the all their needs and requirements. It is the importance and the beauty of the Makkah Gate in Jeddah which made it secure a place in the Jeddah travel guide.

This have been the best trip I have ever made. I try to say something about it, but words fail. I have been wanting to go to Makkah "The holiest place on earth" for a very, very long time, and finally I did "Elhamdlellah" and I've never been so happy.
Just being there makes you feel warm, safe and happy. And the people there, oh my goodness, thousands arrive every single hour, they all have traveled so far, and just seeing the look in their faces when they see AlKa'ba is priceless. I wish I can describe it, but words aren't enough.
All I want to say is El7emdellah that I've got the chance to go, even for a couple of days, this was my first time, arranged by the Student Union of KU, and enshallah it won't be the last.

The first man on earth - Prophet Adam (as) - first built the Kaaba. He (as) was told by Allah to build it "benath" Allah's throne, i.e. the throne of Allah is "above" the Kaba. However, the throne is symbolic in its nature as Allah is not a physical being that needs to rule from a throne. During time, the Kaba was destroyed and it was later re-built by the Prophets Ibrahim (as) and his son Ismail (as).
Before the time of prophet Muhammad (pbuh), pagans worshipped at Kaaba, as they used to have their idol gods within the Kaba) until prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his followers conquested Makkah in a peaceful manner without any blood shed. Since then it has since been a place of worship for Muslims.
Muslims from all over the world face the Kaba when they pray their five daily prayers. Also, many travel to Makkah for the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) or the Hajj (annual pilgrimage). The Hajj is compulsory on every Muslim to do once in their lifetime, if he or she have the financial and medical means for it. One of the rites of the pilgrimage is tawaf - to circumambulate the Kaba counter clock wise. One tawaf is 7 rounds, and is one of the two main rituals of the Umrah.
