I visited the Kleberg Public Library on 5 August 2017 to learn more about their "Maker's Zone" makerspace.
They have an AIO Robotics Zeus 3D-printer/scanner, LEGO robotics, Ozobots and more for patrons to use. There is no dedicated room, but there is a large table space for the equipment.
The space was funded by IMLS/TSLAC grants, but they are short-staffed and haven't yet been able to put all of the equipment to full use.
They also have a Book-Mobile!
The Makerspace is a multigenerational center for learning, creativity, community building and innovation. It features 3D printers, die cutters, laser cutters, sewing equipment and coding kits, available for all ages. Equipment can be used on a drop-in basis or during a variety of classes. On October 17th, the GATEways Outreach Program hosted their first Makerspace Workshop for the public. Our wonderful interns taught the public about the importance of sustainable water, compost, art, food, and energy practices through compost bin creation, leaf rubbing art, pumpkin decorating, and energy saving night lights.
