"My company Josephine provides home cooked meals to people. It was started by knocking on our neighbors doors and asking them if they wanted to come over for dinner. It was free. We asked them questions and got to know each other. We tried dine in dinner parties, we tried supper clubs, we tried meal subscriptions. We realized that what makes home cooked food home cooking isn’t where it’s cooked, it’s not what goes in it, it’s not how it’s cooked, all those things are different depending on where you are. What makes home cooked food home cooking is the fact that it’s an extension of a human relationship. In other words, it’s not food made by a corporation. It’s not a product.”

“She is just as kooky and weird as I am. I can always feel comfortable knowing she’s gonna find something funny that I think is funny that no one else laughs at.”

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
“A concise poem about our work as stated elow
A place without being
a thought without thinking
creatively, two dimensions
suspended animation
possibly a perfect imitation
of what was then to see.
A frozen memory in synthetic colour
or black and white instead,
fantasy dreams in magazines
become imbedded inside my head.
Artistic views
surrealistic hues,
a photographer’s instinctive eye:
for he does as he pleases
up to that point he releases,
then develops a visual high.

“What’s your dream for your life?”
“I would really love to have an education farm. That would look like a piece of property where cabins are built and we could spend weekends inviting different organizations out, youth, elderly, whoever wants to come, and maybe they’d be themed retreats. One weekend we’d focus on herbs and we’d host a group that’s there to learn about herbs, harvest herbs, and learn about herbs role in food preparation. That’s one of my dreams.”

“What are you passionate about?”
“Rock climbing. I used to live in Southern California and there used to be an indoor gym center there. It’s a good community and I went all the time. When I injured my wrist and didn’t go for a while, I missed all my friends and my life. They were a big part of my family and I still hang out with them. I met a friend down there and he asked me if I wanted to go climbing. We went to Turkey together to climb one year later."

“What are some of the ways you like to relax?”
“I really like going to the beach. I like collecting shells where-ever I go. I love dancing. Right now I do Afro-urban which is a mix of different styles from Africa mixed in with house. I danced Congolese for 8 years. And some salsa.”
“I just started taking salsa classes last week! I think it’s going to teach me a lot about relationship dynamics. As the man, you lead the dancing but you can’t be rigid, you have to allow the flow of the feminine by creating the right structure. And even though you’re leading, you’re ultimately taking your clue from the music, which to me is feminine Source energy.”
“For sure, I like partner dance because it’s that balance between allowing yourself to be lead and finding yourself within that pair. That’s hard for me because I wanna do my own thing.”

I meet a lot of people every day Even if you’re not seeing them in these photos. A friend will bring a friend, that friend will bring a stranger. Sometimes they’re all local, sometimes they’re from across the country like Andy. I met up with Jon who had planned to meet up with David. Their mutual friend Jin was invited out as well, and Jin brought his friend from highschool who was visiting the city. And that was how I met Andy the night before he flew back to the other side of Canada.
We spent the night trying to decide where to eat and walking a couple thousand (exaggeration) city blocks only to wind up back where we started for burgers. I got to catch up with David who’d recently returned from Korea and partially get to know Jin and Andy at the same time, how they knew each other and how they both ended up over here, Andy having the easier story of just visiting Jin. It’s realistic to say I may never see him again, but at the same time I enjoyed the conversation we had.
"What was a challenge you faced coming into a new relationship from that?"
Her - "Surrender. To form a partnership with someone else, there was this degree of letting go of what I perceived as losing my independence. Now that I’ve gotten over that, I realized that this is just someone who supports me. So if anything, I feel more independent and strong. I can have my cake and eat it too."

"What is the best gift someone can give you?"
"Presence, strength, vulnerability, communication and love."

“Where did you learn to think outside the box?”
“I went to a Waldorf school in Sebastopol where we didn’t take tests. You don’t have classes. You have blocks. You’ll do Math for 3 months. Then you do History for 3 months. You listen to a lot of stories. You write a lot. You draw a lot. You take your own notes and turn it into an illustration in a book. There’s no wrong. I didn’t know how to take tests for the longest time...I only knew how to ask questions, take down information and question everything.”

“What is one thing that you really like about yourself?”
“I’m there for people, listen, empathize, support people in whatever capacity. Even if I don’t have any wisdom for them, I can just be there as a person.”

“Any advice for people who haven’t figured out their purpose yet?”
“I feel like we’re all passionate about something so just not to talk yourself out of your passion even if you can’t see how it’s going to happen because that’s sort of the universes’ work. We just need to know the what and the universe figures out the how."
