"What is the best gift someone can give you?"

"Presence, strength, vulnerability, communication and love."

“Where did you learn to think outside the box?”

“I went to a Waldorf school in Sebastopol where we didn’t take tests. You don’t have classes. You have blocks. You’ll do Math for 3 months. Then you do History for 3 months. You listen to a lot of stories. You write a lot. You draw a lot. You take your own notes and turn it into an illustration in a book. There’s no wrong. I didn’t know how to take tests for the longest time...I only knew how to ask questions, take down information and question everything.”

“What is one thing that you really like about yourself?”

“I’m there for people, listen, empathize, support people in whatever capacity. Even if I don’t have any wisdom for them, I can just be there as a person.”

“Any advice for people who haven’t figured out their purpose yet?”

“I feel like we’re all passionate about something so just not to talk yourself out of your passion even if you can’t see how it’s going to happen because that’s sort of the universes’ work. We just need to know the what and the universe figures out the how."

"So I went back to the land of my ancestors and it changed me on a molecular level. I felt a recognition of how powerful energy is in a physical world. None of this I had dreamed. But when I met Mandela and Obama I had asked the question ‘What does this mean’? and when I got back to Africa I saw this spiritual man in the village I come from and he says ‘I know where you come from. I see your soul. You’ve been here 7 times already. Your ancestors are so powerful. You’re a queen. That’s why you walk the earth with royalty.’ Then I say ‘Whoa, this is intense, I don’t know how to receive it but I receive it.”

“If you found a genie in a bottle and got one wish what would it be?”

“To be young and beautiful forever!”

“What’s your favorite thing about her?”

"There’s so many things! I like that she’s independent. I think that our relationship is founded on each other’s independence. When we both decided that we wanted to bring our own separate independent lives together, we became stronger as one unit."

Although the Bengali New Year celebration, পহেলা বৈশাখ, was held in Saudi Arabia a bit later, the cultural enthusiasm of us Bangalees did not lack a bit. They showed up in their most colorful dresses, boosting up reds, whites, and so many different colors. I couldn't resist.

"When I cook for Josephine I like to cook slightly elevated comfort food with a little twist. The last meal I did was a Mississippi Roast. It’s a slow cooked chuck roast that has interesting ingredients. I did that with some cheesy grits and cole slaw that has as zip to it from the horseradish I use. I also made sandwiches from the meat with a really nice aioli with really nice rolls from Arizmendi. For the sandwiches I didn’t want to do the cole slaw so I quick pickled carrots, cauliflower, grapes, and onions. And for desert I made a pineapple upside down cake.”

"I was Cleopatra in my former life. Now get me some sushi!"

“My dream is to make the world a better place for young women. As a byproduct of doing that to make the world a better place period. When I was younger I always felt a lot of the characters we were given as young girls encouraged us to value our looks as opposed to our skill sets. The way I was raised by my mom and dad was always to be doing things and be a go-getter so I gravitated to male characters like Aladdin instead of Jasmine, or Jason the boy power ranger instead of Kimberly the girl power ranger. Even though it was just pop culture, the more I grew up, the more I realized there were far more opportunities geared towards boys. Boys from a younger age are molded to be valued for their skills. They’re encouraged to make money with those skills whereas girls are valued for how they look or for giving care to children. I thought that was limiting so I’d say my purpose started at a young age. I think that’s why I continue to use music and pop culture to influence young people.”

“There's always that little voice inside, that gut feeling that pokes you and says ‘Hey Go For It! Say Something! Do it! What have you got to lose?’ And I think I spent so much of my life without the confidence to act on it, till one day I said ‘Why Not!!!’ And ever since then the universe has used that voice to unlock some magical doors that lead me to exactly where I'm supposed to be with the most interesting synchronicity. Whatever that voice is connected to has such a deep understanding of the future and cosmic possibility that I'll never ignore it again.”

“What is your favorite memory from childhood?”

"All of the love and support and guidance my grandmother gave to me. She taught me manners, how to save money, how to cook, how to love and take care of people and to not be afraid to cry. Now every time I get emotional, I don’t get embarrassed because it’s a way for me to connect with her and remember that she’s still a part of me. She made me the woman that I am."

“What do you think happens after we die?”

“I have no idea. My belief is that the aspect of our energy that we consider spirit acts in a way the same as the aspect of our energy that we consider matter. We get absorbed back into the world around us. Rather than a linear idea of reincarnation where there is one soul that takes its experiences on with it, our souls dissolve and return to the universal cosmic soul. And it’s not like when you die you turn into this other thing, because you already are that thing. Linear time is an illusion.”
