WIT: It started about a year ago; I've been adding bits of poems, lyrics, idiomatic expressions or other words to embellish my shots. When I thought about this assignment, I was torn between two ideas. I settled on this shot. What's important to me? Words, communicating. I need it. This is a shot of a few of the hundreds of books I own. This is how they were on the shelf. I just stooped and shot and posted.

BAE Systems Typhoon

The UK Typhoon BT17 will take to the skies above Fairford on all three show days, with BAE Systems Experimental Test Pilot, Nat Makepeace, at the controls. The display will demonstrate the Typhoon carrying four Meteor Beyond Visual Range Air to Air missiles, two Brimstone 2 low collateral precision strike weapons, two ASRAAM missiles and two Paveway IV laser guided precision weapons. This is one of the first times a Typhoon aircraft has flown with weapons fit, this demonstrates the significant milestones which have been achieved towards the integration of these new capabilities, providing the combat pilot with a full range.

A significant contracted programme of work is currently being conducted by the Eurofighter Partner Companies, with the support of MBDA, Eurofighter GmbH and the UK Ministry of Defence, towards the integration Phase 2 and Phase 3 Enhancement packages for Typhoon.

We got some decent stuff. We gave the SlipNSlide to Makepeace (which resulted in finding out about a party we didn't know about, which resulted in a lot of shenanigans). We have a lot of extra wireless routers now, which came in handy 6 months later when we had to purchase a new washing machine with wifi support. We gave the SpongeBob Operation game to Sean. The solar light sucks and didn't work well. And we are always looking for extra boomboxes for our central house music.

G. Makepeace Building, 136 Digbeth, Birmingham, England. George Makepeace ran a second-hand clothes store here. This building was constructed in 1913 and was designed by James Patchett.

Burnopfield Methodist Church on Front Street in Buropfield was built in 2000 and stands on the site of the former Haswell Memorial Chapel. The first Methodist Chapel in Buropfield was built in 1775. A Methodist Society was founded after John Wesley visited Burnopfield where he preached in a garden in Sheep Hill in March 1746.

Burnopfield is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated north of Stanley and Annfield Plain, close to the River Derwent and is 564 feet above sea level. There are around 4,553 inhabitants in Burnopfield. It is located 7 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne and 15 miles from Durham.

Burnopfield was the site of a leper hospital, High Friarside Hospice, which was founded in 1312, but was demolished in approximately 1450. The remains of the original chapel can still be seen today. Other historical buildings in Burnopfield include Burnopfield Hall, which was constructed in 1720 by the Newton family, a wealthy mine-owning family, Leap Mill Farm, a classic example of an 18th-century mill with a working water wheel, and the Gibside estate, which is located between Burnopfield and Rowlands Gill.

The families of Burnopfield Hall and Gibside are linked by the scandalous adventurer Andrew Robinson Stoney: in the late 1760s, Hannah Newton, daughter and heiress to the Newton family fortune, married Stoney, an Irish Lieutenant and adventurer who was stationed in Newcastle. They went to live at Colepike Hall in Lanchester, where his ill-treatment of her became a local scandal, and within a few years she died. In control of her £20,000 fortune, he set off for London, where he met the widowed Countess of Strathmore, who owned the Gibside estate. Stoney eventually tricked her into marriage, and having to adopt her family name of Bowes, became the notorious Stoney Bowes. Her subsequent miserable life with him became one of the biggest scandals of the period. His story was fictionalised by William Makepeace Thackeray in The Luck of Barry Lyndon. Stanley Kubrick later adapted the novel into the 1975 film Barry Lyndon. The family at Gibside Hall eventually became the Bowes-Lyon family, one member of the family being Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. The hall itself is now owned by the National Trust. In 1815, J. M. W. Turner produced several landscapes of Gibside Hall, which are on display in the Tate Britain.

In 1746, John Wesley visited the village, and preached in a garden in Sheep Hill, an area within Burnopfield. He made several more visits, resulting in the formation of a Methodist Society, and in 1775 the first chapel was built, and rebuilt in 1880. By this time other two places of worship had been built: in 1870, a second Methodist chapel, and in 1873, the Anglican church of Saint James was constructed in 1873 at the Leazes end of the village.[5] Until the church was built, Burnopfield had been a section of the Tanfield and District Anglican Parish.

After so much rain, we have enjoyed a couple of beautiful, clear days in Austin and it's amazing how such pleasant weather can complement a pleasant mood. Erm, you can talk...

Less than a half mile from the prior shot but now in another state Providence and Worcester local PR3 is near MP 0.65 on the East Providence Running Track having just left their home base of Valley Falls (RI) yard. At left is the big brick former Crown Manufacturing Company Mill dating from 1911 designed by the Providence based but nationally known firm of C. R. Makepeace & Company mill architects. The building was involved in textile manufacturing right up until about year 2000 and is now home to Comtran Cable...but alas they are not a rail shipper and the old sidings rust away derelict in the weeds.

After cutting through this tiny corner of Massachusetts, in about 3/10 of a mile they'll be back in Pawtucket, RI where they will deliver one load and pull one empty at Teknor Apex alongside the Industrial Highway.

Bracketing the one car is GP38-3 2011 (built as a straight GP40 for the PC in 1969) on the south end and GP38-2 2006 (built new for the PW in Feb. 1980) on the north.

A submission to our #UnfoldTheUniverse art social media campaign by Tim Makepeace.

The artist says, " have been working on a series of paintings about an intriguing area of our galaxy that astronomers hope the JWST can help them image. It is the center of mass of our galaxy.

In this work, I have drawn elliptical shapes that represent the orbital paths of the closest stars orbiting the supermassive black hole that resides at the center of our galaxy 26,000 light years away. These works are based on a 3D mathematical model made from the data collected from several land based telescopes over 10 years and are, in a way, modern maps of the core of our galaxy. Although my works are data-driven, their apparent abstraction is inspired in part by the Constructivist Movement, with its vocabulary of geometry, proportion, and optical play. These are themes that runs through much of my work.

I began a series of work titled Orbital Mechanics, which attempts to explore a fundamental question of mankind: where are we, and in relation to what? Where are we on this earth?; in this solar system?; and now, with the advent of better telescopes, what is at the center of our galaxy and where is our place in this corner of the universe? From ancient astronomers, to Copernicus, to Galileo Galilei, and continuing on, people have contemplated these questions, sometimes at great peril to themselves. This knowledge of place is also fundamental to the paradigm of power in religion and politics. Knowing where one is, in relation to the center of things, can shift one’s perspective and understanding, and can shift one’s sense of place and self. Knowing ones location is a fundamental desire of man, and the JWST becomes another tool to understand this.

Some of the techniques used in these works include the use of carefully controlled small brushes guided with strings to accurately describe each ellipse, and a technique using India ink to paint the lines that trace the orbits in a looser, more energetic way. Because of the colloidal suspension properties of the ink, when the ink is applied in a flooded state, the pigment particles migrate outward, indicating an internal repellent energy within the ink. The result, in the artwork, evokes some of the fundamental energy I am trying to convey, that exists everywhere and, in this particular case, at the center of our galaxy."
