Our world is one of terrible contradictions. Plenty of food, but one billion people go hungry. Lavish lifestyles for a few, but poverty for too many others. Huge advances in medicine while mothers die every day in childbirth, and children die every day from drinking dirty water. Billions spent on weapons to kill people instead of keeping them safe.

D1022 Western Sentinel blasts out of Birmingham New Street with the 12.25 service to Paddington.
For those of us that worshiped the Westerns the guy in this picture had it all, the window next to the locomotive, a cold clear sunny day and in seconds he would savour the sound of twin Maybach engines reverberating off the tunnel walls, the sound was so good it even featured on an Argo L.P. record*
Of course it didn't last and the fleet dwindled to a few select locomotives, many locomotives were withdrawn with minor mechanical problems, some were just switched off.
D1022 was built at Swindon, it entered service new to Old Oak Common 16/07/1963, it nearly made it to the end being withdrawn 18/01/1977, it was scrapped in December 1978.

[20/100x] My X is - 100 Places in Southern New Jersey, USA that I love to take photographs.
LOCATION: Historic Batsto Village, New Jersey, USA.
This is possibly THE top FAVORITE. I'm sure you'll see why in the photos I post in the coming days..
A camera cannot totally capture the beauty and amazing history that one feels when walking thru this historic town.. on foot. Viewing all of the original buildings, homes, workshops (all original and totally perfect & well kept). It's like stepping into the past. It's incredible. That's why this has always been one of my favorite places to go.. and just walk. Since I was a child. I have sooo many memories here.
The dam bridge is one of the best spots. As your standing on the bridge and you can hear and feel the rushing water beneath you, it's the most exhilarating feeling..As a child we would often just stand here (excited) and look over the sides.. (Lori, my couisn reminded me last night). I'll never forget that. I still do the same thing. When I was there the other day and I stood on the bridge, it felt almost like it took my breath. And it was a good feeling. I just stood there and experienced it.. A wonderful excitement.. that stems from my childhood and will never fade as long as I live.
This photo above, was taken right past the dam bridge and saw mill, this is the actual town. There are plenty of homes (I didn't count) but I'm guessing like 6-8 on each side of the road. They're all very similar.. and they have transformed one of them into a bathroom (which is cool).
When it's not Covid-19 lockdown, in the warmer months, they keep all of these buildings open (the whole place), and they'll have people inside these homes and you can watch them work and talk to them.. (THE POTTER, THE CANDLE MAKER, ETC) I always say the potter first, because I remember talking to him while he was making pottery.. (when I was younger). It is burned into my memory.
Juan and I actually looked in every single window of the first 4-5 houses.. Because inside (you have to put your face against the glass to see) they have all of the antique furniture that would have been inside these homes, and the tables are set with realistic looking food.. etc. *SO COOL*~! I captured a couple photos of that as well.

I got a lot of great photos on Thursday 02/25/2021 when we visited Historic Batsto Village..
Juan took me out for a nice relaxing photography day. (It was great, he was taking photos too!) We walked and talked and enjoyed ourselves. The weather was incredible!
Juan took me to 3 separate places thatI LOVE, to take pictures at!
1) Batsto Village, NJ.
2)The Playhouse, Sweetwater, NJ.
3) Makepeace Lake on Weymouth Road. Mullica Twp, NJ (I believe).

One of the most stunning sights of the Yosemite Valley, the Upper and Lower Yosemite falls. The first time I visited the valley we actually didn’t had much time to explore these magnificent falls even though they are quite close to the park center. This time though we made the time and casually walked up to the lower falls and took pictures.
These falls are one of the trickiest falls I have ever photographed because they are tall and it’s almost impossible to even see the upper falls when you are standing right next to the lower falls and when you move further away it make it impossible to convey the true size of the falls. So this time I used a bit of trickery and included the giant trees which were in the foreground to get a better scale of the place.

Having just departed their home base at Valley Falls Yard in Cumberland, RI Providence and Worcester local PR3 is now in the state of Massachusetts here at about MP 0.65 on the East Providence Running Track. At left is the big brick former Crown Manufacturing Company Mill dating from 1911 designed by the Providence based but nationally known firm of C. R. Makepeace & Company mill architects. The building was involved in textile manufacturing right up until about year 2000 and is now home to Comtran Cable...but alas they are not a rail shipper and the old sidings rust away derelict in the weeds.
After cutting through this tiny corner of Massachusetts, in about 3/10 of a mile they'll be back in Pawtucket, RI where they will trundle down along the Industrial Highway before looping around the new connection to head northeast via the old East Junction line and back into Massachusetts again to to work Metals USA in Seekonk.
Leading the short train are PW GP38-2 2006 (built new for the then only 7 yr newly independent road by EMD in Feb. 1980) and B40-8 4002 (blt. Jun. 1988 as NYSW 4008) which is a bit unusual here as this local is almost always assigned two geeps.

Trying to get the tide to stop coming in is tiring work and the poor man needed a rest.

John Norris originally designed this Italianate-style stucco-over-brick building. Wealthy cotton magnate Andrew Low built the house between 1847 and 1849.
Andrew Low came to Savannah from Scotland in the late 1820s as an ambitious teenager with plans to make a name for himself in the United States. In the 19th century, ships owned by A. Low & Co. supplied the ocean routes between Savannah and Liverpool, loaded with bales of cotton worth millions of dollars. As a result of the cotton boom and his sharp business acumen, Andrew Low eventually became Savannah’s wealthiest resident.
Today, the Andrew Low House stands as one of this successful cotton entrepreneur’s most enduring achievements.
The home features a distinctive sandstone trim entrance, guarded by a pair of cast iron lions. Balconies with ornate ironwork and shuttered piazzas define the facade. The first story of the house is set below street level and surrounded by a dry moat. Gorgeous period antiques, stunning silver and spectacular crystal chandeliers adorn the interior.
In one of the home’s most innovative details is a 500-gallon cistern in the attic. Water from the cistern plumbed the kitchen and the bathroom. This was one of the city’s earliest indoor plumbing systems.
A number of prominent guests visited the home over the years.
Guests included British author William Makepeace Thackeray and Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Andrew Low’s daughter-in-law, Juliette Gordon Low, founded the Girl Scouts in the parlor of this stately home. Juliette, known as “Daisy,” died at the home in 1927. Thus, the Andrew Low House a popular stop for visiting Girl Scout troops from across the United States. It has been open to the public as a house museum since 1952.

William Makepeace Thackeray (18 July 1811 – 24 December 1863) was a British novelist, writer and author of the 19th century. He is known for his satirical works, particularly Vanity Fair, a panoramic portrait of English society.
Thackeray began as a satirist and parodist, writing works that displayed a sneaking fondness for roguish upstarts such as Becky Sharp in Vanity Fair, and the title characters of The Luck of Barry Lyndon and Catherine. In his earliest works, written under such pseudonyms as Charles James Yellowplush, Michael Angelo Titmarsh and George Savage Fitz-Boodle, he tended towards savagery in his attacks on high society, military prowess, the institution of marriage and hypocrisy. Spotted yesterday afternoon at RSPB Dungeness from the Makepeace hide during the heavy rain. Quite distant but you just about make out the yellow legs!!
