The great tit (Parus major) is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central and Northern Asia, and parts of North Africa where it is generally resident in any sort of woodland; most great tits do not migrate except in extremely harsh winters.
The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) is a medium-sized woodpecker with pied black and white plumage and a red patch on the lower belly. Males and young birds also have red markings on the neck or head. This species is found across the Palearctic including parts of North Africa..This woodpecker occurs in all types of woodlands and eats a variety of foods, being capable of extracting seeds from pine cones, insect larvae from inside trees or eggs and chicks of other birds from their nests. It breeds in holes excavated in living or dead trees, unlined apart from wood chips. The typical clutch is four to six glossy white eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs, feed the chicks, and keep the nest clean. When the young fledge they are fed by the adults for about ten days, each parent taking responsibility for feeding part of the brood
The great tit (Parus major) is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and east across the Palearctic to the Amur River, south to parts of North Africa where it is generally resident in any sort of woodland; most great tits do not migrate except in extremely harsh winters. Until 2005 this species was lumped with numerous other subspecies. DNA studies have shown these other subspecies to be distinctive from the great tit and these have now been separated as two distinct species, the cinereous tit of southern Asia, and the Japanese tit of East Asia. The great tit remains the most widespread species in the genus Parus.
This is the lovely, rocky Llantwit Major beach, on Sunday, 7th of November 2021. South Wales UK coast. I photographed this scene while walking the beach, on the beach, on this beautiful Sunday morning.
A floating ball, named after David Bowie's song (1969) about a lonely astronaut who has lost contact with Earth.
The ball is filled - every morning - with just enough helium and air to let it hover in its place. Heat, cold, and people moving around can cause it to drift away. A minuscule thread secures it to the floor.
I tried something different with this macro shot of the stamen. I set the camera to Super macro as usual but also set it to instant zoom cropping the amount of excess petal around the heart of the flower by two.
Although it's not easy to use the two settings without a tripod, thankfully I had a good solid wall to lean on.
Connected to this photo which was taken on the super macro setting only. Will be interested if it really has made a difference, so comments welcome..

This is a lovely plant with quite architectural qualities in its flowers. Photographed in our garden where it blooms from May right through until November.
