After 6 months in rehab, Maid Snookums has give up drinking Sherry, so I've let her open a Tearoom in my Stately home ;-(
You know, the men go to tea houses with the expectation
that they will have a nice quiet evening and not read
about it the next morning in the newspaper
So maid Snookums is very discrete ;-)

I wanted to crop this but I couldn't decide what to get rid of, so here's the whole frame. The yellow accents are California Goldfields, but of course this one is all about the Red Maids.
Great fun out enjoying the wildflower explosion in this area - it's been so long and so dry I forgot what it was like to go on the hunt. It was kind of like visiting old friends.

I was reminded by a song on the radio of this particular pic that has been resting quietly on the HD for quite a while.
This statue of Saint Joan of Arc stands in the Cathedrale of Saint-Marie in Auch, Midi-Pyrenees. I'm not certain of its age or the material from which it is shaped but thanks to a very kind comment, it's the work of french sculptor Charles Desvergnes (1860-1928). Apologies also for the somewhat cliché pose and edit but this is actually what I had in mind back in 2013 :-)
The cathedral dates from 1489 and was completed in the 17th century. Along with this statue are some incredibly intricate, carved oak figures (caricatures really and numbered in excess of 1500 total) in the choir stalls and some 18 odd stained glass windows from the Renaissance era. A number of the cathedral's other treasures are housed in a museum that seemed to have escaped our notice.
I think my battery went flat after this pic but here it is at last.
For the curious, the song was Maid of Orléans by OMD.
