It was brought from Thiruvannamalai (Tamilnadu) to the city over a span of six-months, crossing multiple hurdles, on 240-wheel truck in 2019.

The man behind the monolithic statue is Dr B Sadanand, a retired government doctor, who started working on the project in 2010.

The first phase involving pre-erection work and sculpting of the main deity and Adishesha. The total cost of completing the statue, which included completion of the sculpture, polishing, crane work, building frame for the statue and other civil works is Rs 2.60 crore.

A blend of digital colouring and enhancement along with touches of sepia toning were used in this one to give a sense of the timelessness of Times Square, of the great span of its years in history. From the old New York of the Rockefellers, the Carnegies and the Mellons to Apple, iPhones and Instagram Times Square is probably one of the greatest indicators of the human pulse over the decades since it's initial construction.

Time, space and singularity of perception are broken up, or, made simultaneous with several others. As we approach the Quantum Age, non-singularity of view, simultaneity and indeed, non-locality will increasingly become our ways of seeing.

I took my inspiration for the colouring of this image from the work of Paul B0udreau, whose unique art always boggles my mind.

Another tragic loss in the music community. Innovative blues-rock-jazz guitarist Jeff Beck died from complications due to bacterial meningitis at only 78 years of age.

I have always considered Beck to be one of the three best guitarists of all time, along with Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. Ironically all three played in the same blues-pop band in the mid 1960s, The Yardbirds. When Eric Clapton left the band, Jimmy Page recommended his friend Jeff Beck as Clapton's replacement. Beck played on some classic Yardbirds songs like Shapes of Things and Over Under Sideways Down. Jimmy Page later joined The Yardbirds, changing the name to the New Yardbirds. (With a new singer, drummer and bass player, they then became Led Zeppelin.)

Beck formed the Jeff Beck Group and played with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood until a car accident forced Beck to put the band on hiatus. (Stewart and Wood joined The Faces in the meantime.)

Beck will be forever remembered for unique, seemingly effortless, playing and groundbreaking experimentations into blues jazz fusion work. New listeners to Beck's work should listen to classic albums Truth, Beck-Ola and Blow by Blow. You will not be disappointed.

I was fortunate enough to see Jeff Beck twice, first opening for Mahavishnu Orchestra in the mid-1970s and later in 2011 as a solo act. A guitar virtuoso that will definitely be missed.

Pookalam is an intricate and colourful arrangement of flowers laid on the floor.Tradition of decorating Pookalam is extremely popular in Kerala and is followed as a ritual in every household during ten-day-long Onam celebrations.

'Pookalam' consists of two words, 'poov' meaning flower and 'kalam' means colour sketches on the ground. It is considered auspicious to prepare Pookalam, also known as 'Aththa-Poo' during the festival of Onam.

According to a popular legend, the festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of Onam. It falls in the beginning of Chingam, a month in Malayalam Calendar which corresponds to August/ September in the Gregorian Calendar.

Carnival of Onam lasts from four to ten days. First day, Atham and tenth day, ThiruOnam are most important of all. Popularity and presentation of rich culture of the state during the carnival made Onam the National Festival of Kerala in 1961. Elaborate feasts, folk songs, elegant dances, energetic games, elephants, boat-races and flowers all are a part of the dynamic festival called Onam.

People believe the spirit of their dear King Mahabali visits Kerala at the time of Onam. Besides making several other arrangements, people, especially adolescent girls prepare elaborate Pookalams to welcome their most loved King.

More on Onam, visit:www.onamfestival.org/

Onam (Malayalam: ഓണം) is a fesitival celebrated by the people of Kerala, India. It falls during the month of Chingam (August–September) and marks the homecoming of the legendary Emperor Mahabali. The festival lasts for ten days and is linked to many elements of Kerala's culture and tradition. Intricate flower carpets, elaborate banquet lunch, snake boat races, Puli Kali, and the Kaikottikkali dance all play a part in the festival.

Onam is an ancient festival which still survives in modern times. Kerala's rice harvest festival and the festival of rain flowers, which fell on the Malayalam month of Chingam, celebrated the Demon King Mahabali's annual visit from Patala (the underworld). Onam is unique since Mahabali has been revered by the people of Kerala since prehistory.

According to the legend, Kerala witnessed its golden era during the reign of King Mahabali. Everybody in the state was happy and prosperous and the king was highly regarded by his subjects, so much so that even the gods under Indra became jealous of Mahabali, and they approached Mahavishnu claiming that Mahabali is now equivalent to an Indra. Since a world with two Indras represents imbalance, Mahavishnu assumed the form of a dwarf: the Vamana avatara had tricked him to Patala. However, as Mahabali was equivalent to an Indra, he had to wait until the next Yuga where he would be the Indra. In the meantime, with the grace of Mahavishnu, Mahabali visited his people on an annual basis. Mahavishnu served Mahabali as a gatekeeper in Patala as the Lord himself serves his greatest devotees.

It is this visit of Mahabali that is celebrated as Onam every year. People celebrate the festival in a grand way and impress upon their dear King that they are happy and wish him well.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple is a Vedic temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Thiruvananthapuram, India, in the state of Kerala. The shrine is run by a trust headed by the royal family of Travancore.

The Temple has references in Epics and Puranas. Srimad Bhagavatha says that Balarama visited this Temple, bathed in Padmatheertham and made several offerings. Nammalwar, 9th century poet and one among the 12 Vaishnavite saints of the Alvar tradition, has composed ten hymns in praise of Lord Padmanabha. Some well known scholars, writers and historians, like the late Dr. L.A.Ravi Varma of Travancore, have expressed the view that this Temple was established on the first day of Kali Yuga (which is over 5000 years ago). The legends of the Temple are handed down through the centuries. One such legend which finds a place in the old palm leaf records of the Temple, as also in the famous grantha entitled “Ananthasayana Mahatmya”, mentions that it was consecrated by a Tulu Brahmin hermit named Divakara Muni. On the 950th year of Kali Yuga a reinstallation of the idol was done. In the 960th Kali year King Kotha Marthandan built the Abhisravana Mandapam.

The story as narrated in the Ananthasayana Mahatmya goes as follows:

Divakara Muni was a great Vishnu Bhaktha. While at ‘Aanarthadesa’, he performed deep tapas. One day Maha Vishnu appeared before the sage as a lovely child. The charming child attracted the attention of the sage. He requested the God-child to stay with him. The child made his stay conditional. Accordingly, the Sanyasi should treat him with respect. On failing to do so, he would vanish at once. This was accepted and the child stayed with him. The hermit gave him great care and tolerated the childish pranks. One day, when the sanyasi was in deep meditation at his prayers, the child took the ‘salagram’ which the sanyasi was using for worship and put it into his mouth and made such a nuisance of himself that Divakara Mini was greatly angered and could tolerate it no further. He thereupon chastised the child. In accordance with the earlier agreement, immediately the child ran away and disappeared from the spot. While going he said, “If you wish to see me again, you will find me again in Ananthankaadu”. It was only then that Divakara Muni realized who his erstwhile child guest had been. The hermit was stricken with inconsolable grief and for many days followed what, he believed was the route taken by the child foregoing food, rest and sleep in the process.

Finally he reached a wooded area near the sea coast, caught a glimpse of the child disappearing into a huge ‘Ilappa’ tree. Immediately the tree fell into the ground and it assumed the form of Sree Maha Vishnu. The divine form had its head at ‘Thiruvallam’(a place about 3 miles from East Fort at where the Temple of Sree Padmanabha Swamy is located) and its feet at ‘Trippapur’ (5 miles away towards the north). Overawed by the majesty and the size of the divine form, which manifested before him, the Sanyasi prayed to the Lord to condense Himself in size so that he could behold Him. There upon the image of the Lord shrank to a size, three times the length of the Sanyasy’s Yoga Dand. His prayers had been granted. He immediately offered a raw mango in a coconut shell(still this offering continues). The Lord ordained that, poojas to Him should be conducted by Tulu Brahmins. To this day half the number of poojaris(priests) in this Temple represent Tulu region.

(Continuation of the series. You could read about Mark, guitar superhero and my master of music, in the previous posts).

Let’s continue our Mark McArow stories as well as the stories about life in the Inner Russia. (Of course, you know this wonderland, Inner Mongolia? We have our own inner country here, maybe as well as you). I want to show you my latest works and don’t want to rock from side to side and show some newest series before ending some oldest too often. Just from time to time. To keep it free. Lucky we – this one is pretty short.

My previous photo from this series made it In Explore. I’m always overinspired about things like this. Of course, one could say about an algorithms, an elements of chance. But we’re used to the life in partly virtual world (and this part is expanding like the “real” Universe after the Bing Bang. I suppose and hope that the Universe experienced the Big Orgasm after that. Huge one). Again, this element, of Chance, is the sort of the 5th Element, if you know what I mean (and you definitely are, aren’t you?).

I’ve spent this morning at the Flickr, which overinspiring me as well. Thank you all for the inspiration, my friends! Almost every time after that kind of mornings, which I couldn’t let myself as often as I'd love to (the work wouldn’t do itself, even less properly) I I feel like make photos in bunches (I have deposits of RAW material on my computer and don’t want lo leave them to some computer archeologists of the distant future). One thing which stops me (in all my paths!) is of course the Time. Another – I feel that I couldn’t show them in bunches. Even on insta. Or I could do whatever I feel like? I’m not sure.

When I saw divine John McLaughlin, I was amazed at his art of making pauses between the phrases (I used to another Mahavishnu Orchestra, which just flows without stops at all, flawless). Now I’m learning the art of pauses (in music as well) myself.

I’m glad to introduce you our daughter, Alyona, 11 (this series was cut in summer 2020; Maria, also featuring at this series, is our good friend and my fair wife Masha have the same name). She’s already a good, though pretty much lazy, musician. Now she practically let music go, but we jammed wild several years ago, even when she was 4, and I hope that we will some times later. Now she’s inspiring us to do gymnastics. From time to time, she is attending the circus studio.

A week or so ago, I was taking a bunch of photos to amass this The King of Kool and the Other King of Cool collage and decided to take the opportunity to also photograph a selection of my old concert ticket stubs (they have been kept in that same road case for many years). It's not perfect but, if you are so inclined to view in detail, this is some of what you will find:

Humble Pie - Garden City Arena, St. Catharines (my first concert) 1972

Lighthouse and Evel Knievel - CNE, Toronto (one of the strangest double-bills ever, I think. The Canadian band played a set and then Evel proceeded to make his motorcycle fly over a bunch of trucks) 1974

Torontonians for Trudeau - Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto (another weird one... not even sure why I went, must have been some band I wanted to see... anyway, this was for Pierre, the father of our current Prime Minister) 1979

Rory Gallagher - Fresh Club (now The Guverment), Toronto (I knew a guy who worked there and he got me up to meet Rory and actually hold his beloved and legendary Stratocaster in my hands... what a thrill that was!) 1985

The others (from the top):

Gentle Giant

Chris de Burgh

City Boy

The Tubes

Jeff Beck - Mahavishnu Orchestra

Guess Who - Edgar Winter's White Trash

Santana (twice)

Asia

Bill Bruford (twice, the El Mocambo stub being the first show)

Billy Cobham (drum clinic)

The Beach Boys

Doobie Brothers

Return to Forever

**Of Note: In the first comment box is a ticket stub for King Crimson at The Concert Hall (formerly The Rock Pile, Masonic Temple), 1981. Not too long ago, Richard S Warner (Visionheart - Remain in Light !!!) and I figured out that we both attended this concert and I always love the idea of this: two people meet up many years later and who, unbeknownst at the time, may have actually bumped shoulders, or shared comments... I like to think I told him to 'f' off when he butted in front of me at the intermission snack bar!

I guess, an image about music should have some kind of actual music link and so, since you never forget your first time :-) 'Four Day Creep' - Humble Pie (Performance - Live at the Fillmore East).

Day 22 of lock down. some thing different today, two images from 1974 Auckland Town Hall concert, Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin (guitar) & Jean-Luc Ponty (violin). Ilford HP4 rated @ 1600 ASA. Not sure what camera I was using at time could have been Pentax Spotmatic with a 200 mm preset lens.

Today is International Jazz Day and I am celebrating four of my favourite jazz musicians:

From left Miles Davis- a trumpeter par excellence whose double album Bitches Brew is a certified jazz classic along with Kind of Blue, an absolutely fantastic album.

John McLaughlin- a wonderfully adept guitarist whose work with Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti was groundbreaking.

Oscar Peterson- a Canadian jazz pianist who is the virtuoso's virtuoso of class, versatile musicianship.

Dave Brubeck- Any aficionado of jazz would rank Take Five and Time Further Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet as must haves in their collections.
