temple de Pratâpeshvara
Le temple de Pratâpeshvara est un temple hindou situé à Khajurâho dans l'état du Madhya Pradesh, en Inde. L'édifice fait partie du groupe situé à l'Ouest du site, construit lui ,au XIXe siècle.
Très décoratif et photogénique par sa situation au milieu de beaux espaces verts, le temple est toutefois intéressant pour son évocation de la culture indienne. Les trois dômes évoquent les trois principales architectures et religions de l'Inde: hindoue le dôme curviligne le plus haut, la pyramide bouddhiste au centre et la coupole islamique devant.
Je présenterai les sculptures en suivant le sens de notre visite en commençant par les sculptures "anodines ": nymphes célestes , divinités , scènes de la vie comme les défilés , la chasse , les éléphants.... , puis celles valorisant le charme et la sensusalité , avant les "plus coquines voir osées" que je signalerai la veille .... puis les temples jaïn , plus particuliers dans leur architecture et sculptures.....
L’architecture des temples, grandiose et impressionnante, marque l’accomplissement de cet art en Inde centrale. Ces édifices aux formes ajourées reposent sur une plate-forme surélevée sans enceinte ; leurs éléments sont alignés le long d’un axe est-ouest. La hauteur des toits augmente avec l’importance des sanctuaires, depuis les vestibules ornées de tourelles à l’est et le mahamandapa doté de grandes ouvertures et de balcons, jusqu’a la tour du temple, le shikara dominant le tout.
ll est fréquent que le shikara se dresse au milieu d’une forêt de petites tours-temples accolées les unes aux autres,
tout comme le mont universel Meru, que le shikara est censé symboliser, s’élève au-dessus de tous les autres
montagnes. On admirera les décors de la salle de réunion, le mahamandapa, et les ornements du plafond
Si ces temples sont aussi bien conservés et s’ils ont échappé aux pillages, c’est sans doute en raison de leur situation isolée.

The Chausath Yogini temple is in Mitaoli village (also spelled Mitawali or Mitavali), near Padaoli in Morena district 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Gwalior.According to an inscription dated to 1323 CE (Vikram Samvat 1383), the temple was built by the Kachchhapaghata king Devapala (r. c. 1055 – 1075). It is said that the temple was the venue of providing education in astrology and mathematics based on the transit of the Sun.
The Archaeological Survey of India has declared the temple an ancient and historical monument under Act No. LXXI of 1951, dt.28/11/1951.
The Chausath Yogini Temple, Morena, also known as Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple, Standing atop an isolated hill of about hundred feet high, this circular temple commands a splendid view of the cultivated fields below. This temple is so named because of the presence of multitude of shivalingas inside its cells. This circular temple is one among the very few such temples in India. This is a yogini temple dedicated to sixty-four yoginis.
It is externally circular in shape with a radius of 170 feet and within its interior part it has 64 small chambers.Within the main central shrine there are slab coverings which have perforations in them to drain rainwater to a large underground storage. The pipe lines from the roof lead the rain water to the storage are also visible.
The design of the temple has withstood earthquake shocks, without any
damage to its circular structural features, in the past several centuries. The temple is in the Seismic Zone III.
Many of these curious visitors have compared this temple with the Indian parliament building (Sansad Bhawan) as both are circular in style. Many have drawn conclusions that this temple was the inspiration behind the Sansad Bhawan.
Everything in the canang sari has its specific meaning, function, and honors a certain Hindu God. Some of the elements contained in the canang sari are: Young palm leaves named ceper for the nase. It represents the earth and the moon.
Porosan represents Tri Premana (thought, words, behavior) and Tri Murti (Brahma, Wisnu, Shiva).
Rice (wija) is a symbol of Sang Hyang Atma which makes the body come alive. Fragrant oil symbolizes peace of mind.
Sampian urasari epitomizes the wheel of life. Flower petals symbolize peace and sincerity. The placement, colors, and type of flowers are also not randomly chosen; white flower petals represent the east, which is also believed the place of God Isvara. Red flower petals are commonly used to represent the south, which is the place of God Brahma. Marigolds represent the west, known as the place of God Mahadeva, and the last, the blue or purple ones are to represent the north, for god Vishnu.
Kembang rampai symbolizes wisdom and is placed on the flower petals.

Le shikhara du temple de Kandarîya Mahadeva vu en contre-plongée
Le shikhara est la tour principale du temple, elle symbolise le centre de l'Univers : le mont Merou et contient en son sein le sanctuaire (garbha griha) où se trouve la statue du Dieu.
Le profil parabolique de la tour en shikara trouve sa réplique dans les réductions construites sur ses flancs et qui lui donnent cette forme caractéristique.
Selon le rite, les fidèles doivent tourner autour du sanctuaire dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre (rite de la circumambulation) à l'image des personnages sculptés sur les murs du shikara. Une galerie intérieure (pradakshina patha) permet de tourner autour du garbha griha, elle est éclairée par des loggias visibles sur la photo.
A l'arrière se trouve le Mandapa un espace carré, servant de salle de réunion pour les fidèles, et où se trouve symboliquement, au moment de la construction du temple, le "germe" de l'édifice (sous forme d'un coffret carré en or, décoré de pierres précieuses et contenant un mandala).
Pendant la construction, ce "germe" est transporté lors d'une nuit sans lune, dans le "garbha griha" par le prêtre pour accomplir le "rite de fécondation".
Les représentations érotiques des temples de Khajuraho (couples enlacés) sont également à mettre en rapport avec ces rites préaryens de fécondité qui sont restés présents dans la religion hindoue.

Les temples de Khajuraho sont inscrits sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. A l'époque médiévale, le site appelé Jejakbhukti, était la capitale du royaume des rajas Chandelas qui ont pris le pouvoir au début du Xème siècle. Ils y ont fait construire 85 temples dont seulement 25 existent encore aujourd'hui dans différents états de conservation mais tous ont été restaurés. Le site de Khajuraho a perdu de son importance vers 1500.
La plupart des temples sont construits en grès, certains sont en granite. Ils font partie des chefs-d’œuvre de l'art hindou. Leurs décors sculptés les ont rendus mondialement célèbres à cause des figures érotiques qui s'y trouvent mais il faut souligner que ces thèmes ne représentent qu'une petite partie de l'ensemble des décors de ces temples.
