Vientiane (Lao ວຽງຈັນ Viang-chan), capital of Laos is Asia's biggest village. Busy and hectic in comparison to the rest of the country, it is quiet compared with any other city in Asia. Vientiane, as all of Lao's major cities, is situated on the Mekong River which forms the lifeline of the country. Vientiane is the hub for all travel in the country. The estimated population of the city is 200,000 (2005) while the number of people living in the Vientiane metropolitan area is believed to be over 730,000. This delightfully friendly capital, studded with crumbling French mansions, bougainvillea--blooming streets and steaming noodle stalls, is somewhere between a big town and a diminutive city. Vientiane is a city full of surprises. Here you can find fields of rice and vegetables, agriculture hidden behind tree lined avenues. French Colonial architecture sits next to gilded temples. Freshly baked French bread is served next to shops selling noodle soup.
The Mekong River is one of the world’s major rivers. It is the 12th-longest river in the world, and 7th longest in Asia. (discharging 475 km3/114 cu mi of water annually). Its estimated length is 4,350 km (2,703 mi), and it drains an area of 795,000 km2. From the Tibetan Plateau it runs through China's Yunnan province, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Acropolis, known today as Jebel al-Qal’a, or the Citadel, the ancient acropolis covers about 40 acres and is L-shaped. The hill is divided into three terraces and was surrounded by deep wadis on all sides but the north. In times of weakness, the Ammonites could find seclusion and protection here. Towering above downtown Amman, Citadel is the site of the earliest fortifications, now subject to numerous excavations which have revealed remains from the Middle Bronze Age (2nd mill. BC) and the Iron Age (8th century BC), as well as from Hellenistic (2nd century BC) and late Roman to Arab Islamic Ages.
One of the major sites on the Citadel hill is the great Temple of Hercules (Herakles), it was built between 162-166 AD. The massive structure faces east and is seen here from the front (northeast corner.) The temple portico is framed by six 33-foot tall columns. The absence of columns on the rest of the structure, has convinced the excavator that the temple was actually left unfinished.

Every country has its "must be photographed" locations and Kuwait is no exception. Al-Doha port is one of the most photographed and photogenic location in Kuwait. It is a place with many abandoned ships that create very nice point of interest against setting sky.

The little village of Elgol is one of the most photographed parts of the Isle of Skye. Elgol is an increasingly popular destination for climbers and hill walkers of all levels due to its unparalleled access to the famous Cuillin Hills and the various smaller hills dotted around wherever you look. Elgol is a crofting and fishing village in the Strath area of the Island. The small, sparsely populated village is scattered along the final mile of the road from Broadford.
Though you may never have heard of the little fishing and crofting village of Elgol in the Scottish Highlands, there is a good chance that you have seen photos of Elgol's famous mountain and seascape scenery in postcards, Scottish books and even film scenes and television programmes. From the larger Skye village of Broadford many visitors have turned down the enchanting Elgol road completely unaware of the magnificent scenes that await them around almost every corner. The 15 mile journey over twisty single-track roads will take you past High Pastures Cave, one of the most significant archaeological finds in the area, then sweep you around the corner to the ancient, historical site of Kilchrist church
Every mile you drive on your journey from Broadford to Elgol will fool you into thinking that the scenery simply cannot be bettered. However, you will be proved wrong when you arrive in Elgol and reach the shore and the little fishing harbour. There is simply nothing on earth to compare to the site of the Cuillin Hills beyond the Elgol shore - a breathtaking view whether it is sunny or stormy.
There are various opinions as to the meaning of the name, 'Elgol' (or Ealaghol in the native Gaelic, some suggesting 'The Noble Dale' and others 'The Weeping Swan' (folklore details the story of a Viking captain who perished when his longboat named 'The Swan' came to attack the people of Elgol).

What you see here is the coke plant in Duisburg, in this plant they produce cokes that are pre-heated and cooled-down with water before the cokes are transported to the furnace of the steel factory. The black tower in the middle produces enormous clouds (vaporized water).

Egypt - Luxor - الأقصر - al-Uqṣur - Ancient Thebes - Θῆβαι - Thēbai - طيبة - UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site on banks of river Nile - Sailing in Felucca (boat) in the evening time
A felucca is a sea-craft, made to a traditional design, with broad canvas sails. Essentially, the craft is reliant on wind-power with no motor, and are dependent upon the wind factor to propel forth, so itineraries are subject to change from time to time. The craft carries between 5-10 passengers comfortably and the deck is strewn with soft colorful cushions and rugs and equipped with a canopy that offers shade and protection from the elements.
Traveling down the Nile by felucca is a 'must-do' in Egypt. The sun setting across the Nile in the evening aboard a graceful felucca can't be beaten.

Egypt - Cairo - القاهرة - al-Qāhira - Great Pyramids of Giza - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Famous last remaining monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
The pyramids of Giza are perhaps the only true rival to the Great Sphinx when one thinks of ancient Egypt and its architecture. The Valley of Giza -- with its wonderful monuments -- is truly a marvel of architectural prowess. The three largest pyramids located in the valley consist of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Kafhre and the Pyramid of Menkaura. The Great Pyramid of Giza enjoys special status among the "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World". None of the others have survived into the modern era. The construction, date, and possible symbolism of the Giza pyramids are still not entirely understood. This mystery only adds to the attractiveness of these ancient wonders and many modern people still regard Giza as a spiritual place. A number of fascinating theories have been offered to explain the "mystery of the pyramids".

Nyhavn 17 is probably the most famous house in Nyhavn, Copenhagen. It is very easy to spot, in particular at night because of the the neon lights.

Everytime I visit such a famous place like pyramids of Giza, I'm faced with a challenge that this place was photographed probably a trillion times and it is nearly impossible to come with something original. The day I visitted Giza valley rewarded me with some wonderful sky with clouds that created nice shadows passing over pyramids.

蛇の木 The Serpent Tree.
This is the famous maple tree at the Portland Japanese garden. It's an older photo I recently got around to processing. I never intended to post because so many have a photo of it. However, after revisiting the photo I think the light and atmosphere are unique enough to share - I haven't seen a shot anything like it, and I really like it now.
"Soon the child’s clear eye is clouded over by ideas and opinions, preconceptions and abstractions. Simple free being becomes encrusted with the burdensome armor of the ego. Not until years later does an instinct come that a vital sense of mystery has been withdrawn. The sun glints through the pines, and the heart is pierced in a moment of beauty and strange pain, like a memory of paradise. After that day… we become seekers." - Peter Matthiessen

Rannoch Moor as a place of wonder, one of the last really wild places in Scotland. Imagine a triangular area, stood on its apex, about 10 miles across its base and about 10 miles from top to bottom. Imagine that this 50 square mile inverted triangle is a roughly level plateau that sits at an altitude of a little over 1000ft. Imagine that its surface is dotted with innumerable lochs, lochans, peat bogs, and streams; that it is surrounded by mountains that rise to over 3000ft to the south-east and the west and to over 2000ft in the north. And, finally, imagine that this area is crossed by a railway line, running a little inside the south-east side of the triangle, and a single road, running a little inside the south-west side of the triangle. Congratulations: you've just invented Rannoch Moor.
Most people first see Rannoch Moor when driving north from Bridge of Orchy. Near Achallader the main road and the railway line diverge and the road makes a sweeping climb up to the Rannoch Moor plateau. What you find there can be a glory of heather and lochan surrounded by distant mountains. Or it can be a grey cloud-shrouded landscape through which you catch occasional glimpses of an other-worldly landscape. If Achallader marks the southern apex of Rannoch Moor's triangle, then the other two are equally distinctive. In the north-east lies Rannoch Station and the end of the public road in from Pitlochry, 40 miles to the east.

The night of the Christmas Eve was icy with fog. On Christmas morning, the sun rose. The forest decorated itself with twinkling lights, contrasts between the white frost and the black shadows, and holding back the sun's rays it captured banks of mist in its branches till noon.
The sky was overcast and a great time to photograph the Cascade falls. A .3 second exposure allows for some texture in the water.

Nafplion (Modern Greek: Ναύπλιο, Nafplio) or Nauplion (Greek: Ναύπλιων, Naupliōn) is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. The town was the first capital of modern Greece, from 1829 to 1834. Nafplion is situated on the Argolic Gulf in the northeast Peloponnese. Most of the old town is on a peninsula jutting into the gulf; this peninsula forms a naturally protected bay that is enhanced by the addition of man-made moles. The area surrounding Nafplion has been inhabited since ancient times though little sign of this remains within the town. The town has been a stronghold at several times in history.
I still remember the morning I took this shot. I remember how much I wanted to stay in bed and enjoy lazy morning but as soon as I've seen the fog forming above the sea, I forced myself to go out. I had to find some point of interest and was pleased to find these wooden sticks in the water. Photography can sometimes be really demanding, especially for the morning shoot. Well no sleep tomorrow, already planning to go out at 3.45am for the morning blue hour (or blue 15 minutes here in Middle East)

Red sand dunes cover the landscape in the region of Al-Ain, in the eastern region of Abu Dhabi emirate next to the border with Oman.
Al Ain is a fertile oasis city located approximately 160 kilometres east of the Abu Dhabi capital. Its name ("the spring" in Arabic) derives from its originally plentiful supply of fresh water, which makes its way underground across most of the plain lying before the Omani mountains.
