Kuala Lumpur (often abbreviated as K.L.), is the largest city of Malaysia. The city proper, making up an area of 244 km2 (94 sq mi), has an estimated population of 1.6 million in 2006. Greater Kuala Lumpur, also known as the Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.2 million. It is the fastest growing metropolitan region in the country, in terms of population as well as economy.

The Petronas Twin Towers (also known as the Petronas Towers or Twin Towers), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were the world's tallest buildings, before being surpassed by the Taipei 101. However, the towers are still the tallest twin buildings and office building in the world. Tower 1 was built by Hazama Corporation and Tower 2 by Samsung Engineering & Construction and Kukdong Engineering & Construction (both of South Korea). They were the world's tallest buildings from 1998 to 2004 if measured from the level of the main entrance to the structural top.

This is another shot at the magic hour on Xmas Day in Joshua Tree National Park.

Eighth picture of my series My Dreamed Sunset. (This time an horizontal panorama view of the nets, just a minutes after the powerful sunset.)

I leave you today with this photograph of the last October, the most intense sunset in the Albufera of Valencia Natural Park than i have contemplated in all my life. A dream come true.

They were about ten minutes in which the red flooded everything, creating an incredible atmosphere, with red, orange, yellow, pink and blue colors. Just incredible. What do you think about it???

On the technical side, say that I only used a Formatt Hitech ND graduated three steps filter combined withh black card technique.

I hope you like it. Have a nice Wednesday. :)

The Kings House Hotel is a remote inn and hotel at the eastern end of Glen Coe at the junction with Glen Etive in the Scottish Highlands. It is sited in an isolated position, about 2 km to the east of the head of the glen towards Rannoch Moor, and faces towards Buachaille Etive Mor which is very popular with rock climbers. It is called the King's House because British troops were billeted here following the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The inn lies on the old military Wade road that crosses Rannoch Moor. The road crosses the River Etive at the inn before continuing into Glen Coe and ascending the Devil's Staircase. The military road then heads north across the hills towards Kinlochleven. The former military road now forms part of the West Highland Way. The Kings House was built in the 17th century and is thought to be one of Scotland's oldest licensed inns. In late 1746 the building became a barracks for Crown forces under the command of the Duke of Cumberland. The buildings were used as base while soldiers conducted operations to crush or capture any remaining Jacobites in the Highlands.

If you plan your trip well, this location will offer you plenty of photographic opportunities nearly out of the window. Kings House Hotel is one of those amazing places you can stay and practice your photography as soon as you step out of the door. I have purposely booked 2 nights there and could not be happier with the results (and all that “extra” sleep I got, while not needing to drive far as you shoot till 11.30PM and should start at 4AM if the strong will gets you out of the bed). Note that during summer time, you need to book way ahead of your trip as it is extremely popular place, especially with walkers.

A dhow (Arabic,داو) is a traditional Arab sailing vessel with one or more lateen sails. They are primarily used along the coasts of the Arabian Peninsula, Pakistan, India, and East Africa. Larger dhows have crews of approximately thirty, while smaller dhows typically have crews of around twelve. Up to the 1960s, dhows made commercial journeys between the Persian Gulf and East Africa using sails as their only means of propulsion. Their cargo was mostly dates and fish to East Africa and mangrove timber to the lands in the Persian Gulf. They sailed south with the monsoon in winter or early spring and back again to Arabia in late spring or early summer. The term "dhow" is also applied to small, traditionally-constructed vessels used for trade in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf area and the Indian Ocean from Madagascar to the Gulf of Bengal.

Every country has its "must be photographed" locations and Kuwait is no exception. Al-Doha port is one of the most photographed and photogenic location in Kuwait. It is a place with many abandoned ships that create very nice point of interest against setting sky.

I'm still sorting out my Iranian photos, so in the meantime, one "older" shot. This place is not normally lit but I wanted to capture the details of the boat, not just the silhouette as you normally get. This shot is a result of continuously firing the flash from the side of the boat to get enough light during 30sec exposure.

Dyrhólaey is a 120-meter high promontory, not far from Vík. The place got its name from the massive arch that the sea has eroded from the headland. (The name literally means "door-hole"). When the sea is calm, big boats can sail through it.

From the top of Dyrhólaey there is a great view of the Reynisfjara beach . The headland is thought to have been made in an underwater volcanic eruption late in the glacial period, not unlike the eruption of Surtsey. Several outcrops are in the sea, the highest one called Háidrangur ("High column") is 56 m high. Dyrhólaey has been a natural reserve since 1978. The promontory is widely known among sailors as "Portland", and English trawler fishermen used to call it "Blow hole". There are also amazing rock formations all along the beach where one can climb.

The sepia tones of this image are totally natural, there was a lot of ash from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano blowing in the wind that day, which turned the sun light pink.

If you check it, this is not a only sepia image, you can find some bright blues on the ocean and sky, and some dark greens on the rocks at the background.

Again, a long exposition captured well the mood at the place, shaping the big waves and catching the ash and sand on the air.

Reynisfjara, Iceland, 2010.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reynisfjara, Islandia, 2010.

The Masmak (Qasr al-Masmak قصر المصمك) is a clay and mud-brick fort, with four watch towers and thick walls, founded on stone blocks, lying in the center of Riyadh, in the old quarters. This building played a major part in the kingdom's history, as it was here that the recapture of Riyadh, led by Ibn Saud, occurred on 14 January 1902.

This building was built around 1865 under the reign of Mohammed ibn Abdullah ibn Rasheed (1289-1315 AH), the ruler of Ha'il to the north, who had wrested control of the city from the rival clan of Al Saud. In January 1902 the young Amir Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Faisal Al Saud, who was at the time living in exile in Kuwait succeeded in capturing the Masmak fortress from its Rashid garrison. The event, which restored Al Saud control over Riyadh, has acquired almost mythical status in the history of Saudi Arabia and has been retold many times, but has as its central theme the heroism and bravery of the future King Abd al-Aziz.

Today the fort is one among several buildings that form the King Abd al-Aziz Historical Centre, a series of restored buildings in Riyadh. Centennial celebrations were held in 1999. It's palm tree gate is of 3.65m high per 2.65m wide. There is an opening on the center of the door, called al-Khokha, which is just big enough for one pass to pass at a time, and is a feature design to enforce the security by allowing people in and out without opening the door. The castle also encloses a mosque and a well.

The watch towers are circular and 18m high. The walls are 1.25m thick, pierced with narrow cylindric openings used to fire from inside for defense. The square-base shaped Al-Murabba tower in the center dominates the building.

A trip to the desert offers a real adventure into the magnificent landscape of the unique sands of Arabia. This safari tour takes you right into the heart of the desert where you experience the excitement of a roller-coaster tour down the astonishing high dunes. A stop for a breathtaking view of the endless desert gives an opportunity to watch the sun-set over this tranquil scenery.

Great thing about desert around Dubai is that the sand is orange with very thin layer of red sand on the top which adds additional richness to the overall color. Desert safari in Dubai is very touristic thing to do, but it is big fun too. They generally stop at some lovely place just before sunset and give you a chance to take some photos with a wonderful light too.

I just spent 3 weeks in Northwestern Ontario, enjoying peace and quiet. The nights seem to get very dark and I didn't feel like sleeping so I decided to go outside and play with my flashlight and a chair. I was really impressed with lighting.

In the eastern part of South Iceland, between Jokulsarlon and the river Markarfljot there are vast alluvial or outwash plains, black sanded beaches and lava fields with only narrow strips of lowlands, which limit agricultural activities and therefore the area is less populated.

For example, the Lakagigar crater series, a few miles inland from Kirkjubæjarklaustur, it produced the largest lava flow ever witnessed in historical times anywhere in the world, during the Skaftareldar eruption of 1783. Another large lava field is the Thjorsa river lava field which flowed from the Veidivotn crater area all the way into the sea about 8.000 years ago.

These lava fields, are a rich substrate for many vegetal species, like this star shaped. I just shot with the 50mm, any little detail is a great scenario.

The Museum of Islamic Art is a museum located in the Qatari capital Doha and designed by architect I. M. Pei. The museum draws much influence from ancient Islamic architecture yet has a unique design. It is the first of its kind in the Persian Gulf and will have a very large collection of Islamic art, plus a study, a library, and several restaurants. The museum has a total area of 45,000 m2 and lies on the edge of Doha harbour at the south end of Doha Bay. Construction of the structure reached completion in 2006, but the interior was subjected to a variety of changes thereafter. The museum celebrated its VIP opening on November 22, 2008, and opened to the general public on December 1, 2008.

Salalah and Dhofar region offers visitors an enormous variety of things to see and do. The natural beauty of the surrounding area is breathtaking. You can witness the stunning views of dramatic mountains reaching right to the edge of the sea. You can experience wadis and beaches as well as the springs. Salalah is a coastal city located on the shores of the Indian Ocean, in the southern part of Oman. Although close to the Arabian desert, Salalah enjoys a pleasant tropical climate and even in the summer the temperatures are not too hot as the coastal fringe of Dhofar and Salalah is touched by the winds of the southwest monsoon between June and September. The surface winds encourage an upwelling of colder waters in the Indian Ocean which cool the over-lying moisture-laden air. The fog cools temperatures considerably, such that Salalah is a popular destination for Gulf visitors in the summer as a respite from the relentless heat. The phenomenon of this rain-bearing fog is known locally as the Khareef.

The Kuwait Towers are three towers of reinforced concrete in Kuwait City. The main tower is 187 metres high and serves as a restaurant and water tower. It also has a Viewing Sphere which rises to 123 meters above sea level and completes a full round turn every 30 minutes. The second tower is 145.8 metres high and serves as a water tower. The third tower houses equipment to control the flow of electricity and illuminates the two bigger towers.

I live in place called Bneid al Gar, which is area very close to city center, beach and Kuwait towers. I’ve chosen it purposely as it is nicely convenient and I have lovely sea view I wanted to have coming over to Kuwait. Unfortunately this is not the view I have from my building (I’ve posted one recently), but I realized there must be a great view of the Kuwait towers just from the building next door with the Gulf road offering nice possibility for long light trails from passing cars. I’ve decided to do my usual trick - get into the building and try to reach the roof, which unfortunately was closed this time. I have however met kind Kuwaiti man that had asked harris (man that normally looks after a building) if he could open the top floor for me and he was kind enough to do that (and being it in Kuwait, no baksheesh was asked, I cant imagine how much they would ask for such a favor back in Egypt ) And at last not least, I really wonder why it took me 2 years to find this spot, best things can be sometimes just behind the corner… now I just have to watch out for some clouds to give it bit more dramatic and dynamic feel, sad thing is that it might take few months to be lucky…

Wadi Bani Khalid is about 203 km far from Muscat. After turning right from Sur-Muscat inland road (about 105km from Sur) zigzag roads takes you to the mountains, the whole 30 km drive offers spectacular views to the surrounding mountains, villages and palm groves. It is the best-known wadi of the Sharqiyah region. Its stream maintains a constant flow of water throughout the year. Large pools of water and boulders are scattered along the course of the wadi. As a geographical area, Wadi Bani Khalid covers a large swathe of low land and mountains.

Caves form some of the interesting features of this wadi. These include Kahf Maqal which is one of the Sultanate's underground chambers. However, reaching this cave takes a lot of effort and visitors should be prepared for the adventure. Springs of water are also common in this wadi. The springs of Ain Hamouda, Ain al Sarooj and Ain Dawwa, among others, are a blessing to the eye as one ventures along the wadis. The village of Badaa is a well-known tourist stop in the valley.

There are plenty of warm pools for swimming here, and a short cave system to explore – all in a spectacular setting. Since the attractions are easy to reach, it's no wonder this area is very popular. The pools are quite touristic, with shades, benches and bridges between big limestone boulders. But the setting is beautiful and the handful of other visitors are easily lost when exploring the area.
