Birds of Britain and the Western Palearctic - "Lifer" from Morocco 2019.
Thank you for taking a look at my images.

The legend says that Sidna Youchaâ (Joshua, the Biblical prophet) is buried in a mosque on a beach that bears his name (Sidna Youchaâ, Tlemcen, Algeria). in the past, place of pilgrimage for Jews of the Maghreb.
Ait Benhaddou, Morocco, before sunset, this is where the scenes from the fictional Yunkai city were filmed for Game of Thrones. It's easily the most touristy place in the Moroccan desert.

The magpie of North Africa; very similar to Eurasian Magpie and closely related. Slightly shorter-winged and longer tailed than Eurasian Magpie with blue bare skin around the eye. Also lacks gloss on the tail. Found in various wooded habitats including urban and suburban gardens, woodlands, cultivated areas, and forests. Call is a rapid chatter and is slightly higher-pitched that Eurasian Magpie. (eBird)

Very similar to the european magpie, from which this species had recently been split. They were quite numerous but shy. I took this photo while standing behind the van.

Douz (Tunisia) - Falconry is widely practiced in the Maghreb. Tunisia is no exception to the rule. With a falcon or a hawk, it is a traditional hunt. Personally, I am not a hunter. But whether to hunt, I prefer to do it with a bird of prey. It’s less devastating.
One of my first reports, when I was 23, was a commission for the "Hawk Festival" which is held every year in the far north of Cap Bon in Tunisia.
The hunters claimed that after the young raptor was captured, it was trained, and then, when the quail hunting season was over, the bird was released. They would repeat the process the following year. Anyway, that's what they claimed. I remain skeptical.
The falconer and his falcon in the photo were photographed in Douz, also called “The door to the desert”. The man ran a small craft shop. He assured me he was hunting with his hawk, but I believe he was on display to attract tourists to his shop. One does not preclude the other, however.
I had to intentionally cut off part of the falconer-shopkeeper's arm during the shot, to eliminate a display of tourist objects from the frame. I find the man's gaze as piercing as that of his hawk.

The sintir, also known as the Guembri, Gimbri or Hejhouj, is a three stringed skin-covered bass plucked lute used by the Gnawa people. The Gnawa are an ethnic group who were brought to Northern parts of North Africa by Amazighs (“Berbers”) as slaves, their ancestry is traced to southern regions of Morocco and sub saharan Africa. After the Islamization and the abolition of slavery, they became a part of the Sufi order in Maghreb (Wikipedia).
Such oriels are common in maghrebian architecture. On the one hand they serve the air flow and on the other hand they serve the women, who are not allowed to leave the house, to look at the street undetected.

Atlas mountains, Morocco, taken in January. 2 innocent tourists were butchered by Islamist terrorists in this area this week, I'm shocked at the lack of coverage of this in mainstream media (nothing in San Francisco news, nor Turkish media), shame on news sites that don't show this on the front page, and a smaller shame on the sites that make it seem the women accidentally fell on a knife and beheaded themselves. I don't want to bother with links, this is a photo website I know, but EVERYONE needs to be aware of what happened, you can google the rest, just when you think it's safe............

Moment Of Gratitude At Maghreb Time With Blessed Home & Breathtaking Sunset In One Drone Photo - IMRAN™
This was such a magnificent sunset on Tampa Bay, Florida. I was on the dock, behind my blessed home, with my dogs, doing a drone flight capture of the sunset.
I decided to try doing an HDR photo sequence with the home and the sunset in one picture. So I flew the drone over and past the house over the cul-de-sac to take two photos of the same view to make the HDR (high dynamic range) photo to show what our human eyes are capable of seeing but cameras cannot capture in one photo at a particular exposure setting.
You can see the HDR blending effect show through some of the palm trees. Also, because with a strong breeze it is impossible for the drone to remain in exactly the same spot between two shots even 2 seconds apart, some items' edges will show that effect.
But I captured that I wanted to, a moment of even deeper appreciation for all that Almighty Allah has blessed me with. A perfect moment to say a prayer of gratitude at Maghreb time.
