This is the second time for an image like this. Applying some of the things I learned the last time, I used a nicer glass, moved the black card on the white side of the image further away, and left the alcohol out of the water because surface tension was not a problem this time.

Strobist Info:

Canon 580 exii at 1/4 power with blue MagGel and Rosco #360 behind and camera right.

YN-560EXiii at 1/2.3 power behind subject and camera left.

Both lights shot through translum and separated by a white foam core board. The dark line between white and blue is the card. I tried moving the separator board away from the background, but it created a funny not so white line which was pretty ugly. If I had used a thinner material the line would not be as noticeable. Maybe using a shallower depth of field to blur the line would have worked too.

A fallen time that's bygone

A crude elite that's from a distant zone

You turn a blind eye on what's brave

You don't know if it's the truth you told

Anger looks on the quiet dreaming

Seals the sense incandescent ones

Hold back desire for danger

A bet you lose, you'll have no way to turn

I see the man who lives and breathes corruption

Into a circle that you call you own yeah

Don't run away, from the pain

A claim that you deal with

A power game, from within

Impossible for you to see this

Oh yeah

No

Laid down the laws of deceit

The ones who cherish are the ones who'll go

Into the ashes of a tortured world

Only in mind's eye can you see a light

Harmony break, dark awakes

In old eyes The trouble, feel it

Here to stay

Mark the way, improvise the judgment hearing

No

Don't run away, from the pain

A claim that you deal with

A power game, from within

Impossible for you to see this

Anger looks on the quiet dreaming

Seals the scenes incandescent ones

All remains of the glowing embers

Is a bleak cold irrelevance

I hope no one gives me grief for taking speedlights and gels out on a bushwalk ever again :)

Starting with my shoes on the right, from oldest to youngest.

I had this image/concept bouncing around in my head for several months where my boys where following in my foot-steps. It started with just my shoes and my youngest (over on the far left), but quickly morphed into all the boys dress shoes.

From there I went through several iterations of lighting before landing on this light.

Process:

____

This was shot on Kodak TMAX 100 B&W 120 medium format film with a Hasselblad 500 C/M.

The film was over-exposed 1 full stop at f/5.6 and 1/250s shutter.

It was developed in Kodak D-76 developer (1:1 mix) at 70 degrees fahrenheit for 7 minutes, 30 seconds.

It was fixed with Kodak Fixer for 10 minutes.

After it dried, it was scanned with a Canon Canoscan 9000F Mark II scanner at 9600 dpi and a custom glycerine wet gate mount. The scanning software was Vuescan Pro and it was scanned as a transparent image in full 48 bit RGB color to a tiff file with manual exposure and no gamma correction.

The tiff file was post processed in Adobe Photoshop.

My second attempt at a composite bottle shot (the first was too embarrassing to share).

I'm still not happy with this version, it's proving to be hard photography to master indeed. I will try again a 3rd time tomorrow.

One more product shot before I pack away the lights. Damn... I really should have used the can of mist/smoke for yesterdays PRO-MIST filter shot! Doh!

Nevermind, here it is supporting my newly acquired old school DAP (Digital Audio Player).

My better half spent a weekend at Jervis Bay visiting a friend, this was my gift upon return, and it's a really lovely drop!

Took 3 attempts but I'm pretty happy with this version. I had to have a sleep on it and think of another way to tackle the rear lighting of the bottle. Quite pleased with the results here for an amateur.
