Out to re-fill the bird feeders and came upon this cute little yellow jumper with glass legs... cool little guy. TINY, but cool. I think I need a better macro lens. This guy was moving around SO fast. 100 pictures later, I finally got him.

Saw this when I was walking the Dog.

Ok, I took a lot of photos tonight. But by far, the one I like the best is this one. First of all, it should be known that this was a very small spider. I had my 105mm macro lens on and also a Kenko Uniplus 25 extension tube. This guy was creeping around below where I was shooting, and somewhat sticking to the shadows. Miraculously, I got a decent focus on him. On top of the difficulties with his size and being in the dark, he was also -for lack of a better way to put it- gyrating. He was bumping up and down in place, as if doing push-ups. Obviously, this made focusing rather difficult. Still... I think he was worth the challenge. Anyone have an ID? He's not in my book.

This is one massive spider! Measuring about 4 inches long this spider is also known as the Giant Wood Spider

There's two things I look for in a spider picture. Size and colorful markings. One thing I've always loved about this spider is that it's an overachiever in both departments. At around 2" (female, including legs), it's one of the larger insects I usually photograph and look at those colors!

I consider this to be the "monarch" of spiders, and was very happy to see one today. Sure I had to climb halfway into a boggy, mosquito covered mud bank to get the right angle, but that's just how it goes sometimes. :-)

A Sparassidae, hunstman or rain spider came visiting my office today (and won't leave)

While gardening, it is best not to have one of these critters crawling over your hand. I may just have screamed like a very small girl!

A spider I ran across in the yard.

I'm actually quite proud of this one. I was sitting in the garden with my camera, and noticed this tiny spider making its way across my arm. I got this image one-handed, with the lens in MF.
