A Shot of a ferrofluid which I think looked pretty cool.

I love taking photos of rain droplets on little moss plants, or other tiny plants. You never know what the camera will reflect and magnify, and I do enjoy opening the pictures in the computer to see what's there. Often the detail has been so tiny, I've been unable to see it with my eyes.

This is a tiny bulb in one of several really small torches I use for photography lighting. I buy tiny torches of all shapes and colours, from a $2 store, and find them really useful (especially for macro work). This particular torch is pen shape and size. It has a tiny bulb at one end that shines white. Then there's another tiny bulb in the centre section that shines gold. The white light end of the torch is just like any other torch, however the other end is made of white plastic cut out to be a whistle (and it's loud). There's a tiny rubber button in the centre of the body that you press to turn on, first the white light, then press again and the centre gold light comes on, then press again and the centre gold light flashes. I'm assuming it was made to be a tiny hazard light that you carry in your pocket and, if you get lost or in danger, you can blow the whistle and set up the little flashing hazard light. It fits easily in your pocket and takes a AAA battery - clever little thing.

Testing 105mm Macro Lenses

In its 5th and final Instar the Monarch Caterpillar is almost ready to stop eating and form itself into a J shape and then, after about 24 hours, form its chrysalis.

All my own work - coloured inks on genuine watercolour paper.

I've done a lot of this art, using coloured inks, with great results (which are hanging on our walls) so it's been fun to do this special little tiny delight.

The Asilidae are the robber fly family, also called assassin flies. They are powerfully built, bristly flies with a short, stout proboscis enclosing the sharp, sucking hypopharynx. Robber flies, often resemble wasps or bees more than they do flies. They certainly bear little resemblance to house flies.

This was fun and what a nice result. The reality is that it's my kitchen grater and two lights, a red and a blue. The result is an interesting vista of the little holes, with reflections from the lights swirling through.

Shooting some macros with the very last percentage of my battery.

Oil on water is one of the first subjects that everyone should try out when they get a macro lens. We have been having fun making some amazing abstract shots using this method, you can see how in our latest video >>> youtu.be/mixLIIQ5N00

It's a super simple setup that can get some colourful and creative shots right out of the gate. We have spent many hours taking shot after shot of swirling oil and water mixtures to get some amazing varied results.

All it takes is a shallow glass bowl, some oil, water and a colourful backdrop. Using the Adaptalux Studio and our Colour Filters, we were able to change the colours and gradients behind the oil with ease, getting hundreds of unique shots really quickly.

If you are looking for a new macro subject to try out, definitely give this a go. The colourful abstract shots can make for some great desktop backgrounds. If you're into video, the motion of the water is really pleasing to capture if you have the right lighting.
