“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” - Washington Irving
Happy Mother's Day!

Most of this order are moths; there are thought to be approximately 160,000 species of moth (nearly ten times the number of species of butterfly),[1] with thousands of species yet to be described. white cabbage butterfly on russian sage in a favorite neighborhood garden, one of several in my neighborhood i visit periodically over the spring, summer and early fall months. This one actually happens to be in a traffic island and is tended by local gardeners as well as city workers.
Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

Not sure which specific fly is this, but it looks fantasic. And it looks like its mouth is open and ready to eat the (blurred) ant in front of it (as if it would) ^_^
Vegetal lice destroyed it unfortunately.

I was going to delete this because of the very shallow DoF but it makes me smile. This tiny fly was watching me for ages and it was almost like he was posing for the camera!!

Unfortunately I have not yet had time to identify this little green guy. The eyes are just so crazy and those wings! The white is from a plastic tub. Shot this one with a 2x teleconverter and the 100mm macro. Natural light.
4mm big.
Jumps farther and higher than the jumping spiders I've photographed. Moves very fast, too. But, like the cheetah, stops after a short burst. Runs out of gas fast, maybe.

The flower is an hypericum. This was seen in the Sensory Garden in Hesketh Park, Southport. It's virtually a wild garden, left to go to seed and it looks after itself. It's not tidy and as a consequence is full of wildlife! I love it as it is only a couple of minutes walk from home. PERFECT!

MacroMonday's: Wet
Tried something a little different because I couldn't think of anything beside a water drop for the topic "Wet".
Milk Explosion: Directions: In a bowl of milk add 1 drop of red, blue, and yellow food coloring. Next add 1 drop of dish soap. As soon as you add the dish soap a wonderful explosion of colors and swirls begin! What fun!!

these beetles destroy lilies, so this one hasn't started to chow down yet. they are the bane of any lily gardener, but are beautiful to photograph in contrast with the lime green of the unopened lily. this is a closer crop of an earlier post, and i changed the name.
Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand--Weaver ants sometimes called green ants make their home in the trees and bushes. They bend leaves into tent like structures and glue the seams together with 'silk' that they squeeze from their larva. This ant is extending to grasp another leaf to make another tent.
