A butterfly taking off at the excellent Butterfly and Insect Centre on the island of Sentosa off Singapore.
First speckled wood butterfly of the year arrived in the garden today so I thought I'd start getting it used to the camera. These butterflies are territorial and tend to hang around the same area for weeks.
Peacock butterfly. This is the 4th of these we've found in our dining room since the beginning of August.
Watch out, someone is waiting under that pretty pink thistle..

This is a male as evidenced by the less brilliant wing tips. The females are a deep rich orange with more contrasted markings. In my butterfly garden, the females far outnumber the males and they can be very selective.
Beryl, my mother-in-law, had the hip replacement operation last Friday. She is recovering well and came home today. We hope she'll be back to the normal life very soon.
This Red Amiral butterfly photo was taken in my parent-in-law's garden. The Buddleia'd attracted the Peacock,Cabbage White, Small Tortoiseshell and Red Admiral butterfly species.
