Gatekeeper butterfly on margeurite flower with a holly leaf in the background

Looking back through the archives from this fall. I have so many shots I still have to look at and edit. I will post periodically during the winter.

This golden skipper is often found basking on vegetation, or making short buzzing flights among tall grass stems. Despite its name, 4 skipper species found in the British Isles are the same size or smaller than the Small Skipper.

Have been working in a butterfly garden for the last three weeks, and all kind of critters are been showing up for their free feeding.

Image taken with Pentax k5 and Mamiya 200mm F2.8 with ring extension.

saw when I was walking my other dog Roxy (not very photogenic because she is hyper..). Right after I took this picture, Roxy sniffed the weed and walked through it..

Painted lady butterfly series. Natural light

This butterfly was resting on a plastic garden table. It stayed perfectly still for several minutes allowing me to get real close and snap away :)

I never saw the top of its wings but I think, from the underside it's a Red Admiral.
