Although I do not longer play W40K, I always have been a sucker for the Ultramarines chapter.
When I bought the Marneus Calgar miniature from the old Rogue Trader era , I discovered that "Ultramarine" no longer meant cool.
That was REALLY shocking.
However, Ultramarines do not admit defeat, so I turned it into a joke diorama.
The diorama is quite old, but it is still very popular among my friends. ^_^
It's been quite some time since I uploaded what I have been working on- I have actually finished a few miniatures since finishing the Ox character from the Guild Ball Butchers Team.
I continued with the Butchers and have finished Brisket,Boiler and the mascot pooch- Princess. They are just quick paint jobs as they are needed when our league begins shortly.
I also painted up several Spore Mines from the Battle for Macragge set, my pick of the bunch, The Spawn of Cryptus Brood Lord from The Shield of Baal: Deathstorm starter set- a peach of a miniature! And last but not least -even although it was a two day quick paint up job, a push fit Dreadnought (from the Assault on Black Reach starter set)
I shall get round to taking a few pictures of each of these finished models soon but I didn't bother with W.I.P.s with these miniatures because I am a lazy sod! I don't know why I didn't get the camera out while I was painting these minis but I didn't and nothing can change that now unless I find access to a time machine or friendly time traveller who would go back and take a few snaps for me while he is telling the past me the results for that past few weeks National Lottery winning numbers!! That would be nice.
Anyhoo I am getting back into the camera swing of things now as I begin one of the last few backlog miniatures I wan't cleared before I start on my Space Hulk or whatever I chose to do next as a main project. Tyranids are calling as are both Dark Angels, Mechanicum and Blood Angels...ahhh decisions decisions!!

Marneus Augustus Calgar... not only is he one of the most expensive infantry based models, i also have the metal version of him!
The model has been around for a while, even a painted iteration had been uploaded to my deviantart-page. But as i grew more confident with my skills i simply had to repaint him and make him a centerpiece for my army.
Stay tuned for more! I will upload another picture by the end of the week. If you can't wait to see what i have painted already, visit my page at DeviantArt or follow me on Facebook

As I mentioned earlier I recently aquired Space Hulk, I am going to try and do the SH miniatures justice so before I dive in I am going to paint several spare marines (Macragge extras) and try out different techniques of painting red. Not over kean with this one as IMO it is too dark a red. I primed in grey, basecoated with Burnt Umber, midtones were Mephiston Red and here is where I went wrong, I intended to pin wash with Agrax Earthshade but found myself slapping it on all over with a No.4 sized brush! (Brain fart!) Whoops! Edge highlights with Evil Sunz Scarlet, mehh too dark I think if I has just gone with the pin wash it would have come out a lot lighter.
I am pleased with how this project has turned out. I have learnt a lot during the painting of it- including Bub Varras. This will be a proud addition to my board and I intend buying the old rule set that came with the starter box and updating the rules for small fun games of 40K!
Note: Sent off for Macragge Rulebook today.
74th Viridians "Stormriders"
My scratchbuilt version of Marbo, built to fit with the look of my army. Parts from several sources were used in the process, including ForgeWorld bits, fantasy chaos marauders and the old Macragge boxed set.
My combined Ultramarines and macragge PDF army. Now that 6th Edition allows allies i thought I would share some work in progress of this army project which I started in 2009. Thankyou GW for adding allies to 40K, you have made my year!

One of three models I painted up quick sharpish for my 'EM interview. Didn't get much notice so I focussed on keeping it neat. I've had this guy for years and he's been painted a few times but he's such a cool miniature I couldn't resist giving him a fresh scheme. I went with orange because I thought it would lend to a striking scene that would be easily remembered (it was a job interview after all).
A project almost finished, just got a greenstuff voidsuit to create in the stead of the Macragge pilot. The armsmen are made using cadian torso and catachan legs, with FW shotgun vet weapons and accessories. The odd polearm is based on a navel weapon described in one of the Calpurnia novels - double ended axe type weapon with electric bristles designed for boarding actions. For those who aren't sure the indentured workers are GW minis, they are from a collection of diggas from a digganob boxset I had lying around - the rest of which will become an actual digga mob... best viewed on largest setting
